Today we’d like to introduce you to Rey Paez.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born and raised in Southern California. I was born with Spina Bifida and have always been different. When I found art as a kid it helped build my confidence as well as a way to escape with my imagination.
As I got older I went to school for graphic design/print technology. I quickly found out that it was not my passion. While going to school I made friends that were making a living being illustrator. I decided to give it a shot and that brings us to present. I’ve been illustrating full time for about 4 years now. 🙂 lol!
Please tell us about your art.
Well, first I would consider myself an illustrator. I spend half of my time creating for others. Whether it be illustrating a children’s book or Star Wars sketch cards for Topps.
The other half of the time I’m illustrating my own stories. My artwork is heavy on the character design lol I try to put a little story to all of my illustrations. I want people to see my artwork and have a smile. I want my work to take the viewer to a fond memory of theirs. I’d love to bring joy into the world one illustration at a time lol!
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Oh, this is a tough one. I think it takes a special kinda person to want to go into a creative field. Most of us are they kinda people that can’t see ourselves doing anything else other than art. I truly feel that as long as you’re doing something you love everything will work out. With that said be smart and save your money whenever possible lol just try your best not to let money get the best of you cause that’s when the creative juices stop flowing.
