We recently had the chance to connect with Laura Sadler and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Laura , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
When my husband’s partnership came to an end, I had to step up and figure out how to run a law practice. I took a crash course in Quickbooks, researched how to manage a client trust account and from day one I have handled all the behind the scenes operations for my husbands law firm. I have done everything from finding IT support to graphic design, working with a marketing team, a financial team and oversee/adjust the business model. I’ve had to consult with employment attorneys’ when we’ve had staff issues and so much more. I know that my husband’s law firm would not have been as successful without my constant oversight and business sense. I’m very proud of how successful we are and that we can support each other to make it all happen.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My main business has been medical massage. What makes my work unique is that it is solely focused on helping people who suffer from chronic pain and injuries. I am a great compliment to physical therapy. All of my massages are custom designed to address my clients issues and to discover the root of the pain. I focus on educating my clients’ about their pain and give them tools to manage it in between sessions. The results are more long lasting and more permanent for most of my clients.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship I had with my mom.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
It gave me a sixth sense about people. I can tune in quickly and feel if someone is coming from a bad or good place.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you need to keep making up new ‘techniques’ to be relevant. The spa industry mostly does this and the industry uses it as an excuse to make massage therapists do continuing education.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
They would miss having someone who can help them with their chronic pain. There are not very many massage therapist who specialize in this area and my clients would struggle to find someone to do what I do for them. I can never retire!
