We recently had the chance to connect with Titus & Jocelyn Carlson and have shared our conversation below.
Titus & Jocelyn, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
A life of flexibility. We are so proud of this because we get to be present parents while still providing for our family financially. Most of our days look like making and eating breakfast together with our kids, being outside with them as they play and we work in the garden, and going out for coffee breaks and park dates as a family. Our family is truly at the center of the life we are building.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We’re Titus and Jocelyn Carlson. We are a husband and wife wedding photography and videography team. Our brand is rooted in heritage and human connection. Our work blends documentary authenticity with editorial sophistication. We are inspired by European romance, natural light, and the quiet, timeless beauty found in family traditions and genuine emotion.
What makes our brand special is the heart behind it. As a family ourselves, we understand the legacy that wedding imagery carries. We feel that wedding photos become heirlooms for generations to come. That perspective shapes everything we do. We approach each wedding with the same care we would our own family, preserving not just the moments, but the meaning behind them.
Our goal is to create imagery that feels effortless and refined, yet deeply personal. We want to capture photos and create films that age with grace, evoke memory, and celebrate the enduring beauty of love and lineage. We’ve been honored to document destination weddings across California and Europe, and we’re continuing to expand our approach to more couples who value authenticity, sophistication, and legacy.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Becoming parents completely reshaped how we see the world and, in many ways, how we see our work. Having children gave us a deeper understanding of time, legacy, and the quiet, fleeting beauty in everyday moments. It reminded us that the most meaningful images aren’t about perfection, they’re about connection, presence, and the stories that will one day help our kids understand where they came from.
It’s changed how we approach every wedding. We no longer just see a bride and groom, we see future parents, future grandparents, people building the beginnings of a family story. That perspective gives everything we capture a deeper sense of purpose and emotion.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has a way of stripping away everything that isn’t real. It teaches us humility, the kind that only comes when you’re reminded you’re not fully in control. Success can make you feel capable and confident, but suffering teaches you gratitude, empathy, and perspective.
Through those seasons, we’ve been reminded that none of the success is truly ours but the Lord’s. Every opportunity, every door opened, every story we get to tell is a result of His grace and kindness. That realization keeps us grounded and deeply thankful, knowing that our role is simply to steward the gifts we’ve been given well.
It’s changed the way we see both life and work, with more patience, reverence, and joy. Humility gives our art its soul; it keeps us centered not on what we’ve achieved, but on the grace that made it possible.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies our industry tells itself is that faster is better, that you have to constantly chase the next trend, the next award, the next level of recognition to stay relevant. It’s the “hare” mentality: hurry, hustle, achieve, repeat. But in our experience, the real artistry and longevity comes from the tortoise approach.
The people we admire most in this industry aren’t the ones sprinting toward the spotlight. They’re the ones who’ve quietly, consistently refined their craft over time. They’ve built something enduring because they weren’t in a rush to arrive. They took their time to find their voice, their rhythm, and their place at the table.
We’ve learned that success in this field isn’t about speed, it’s about stewardship. The work that lasts is made slowly, with intention, and rooted in something deeper than trends. In every season, our desire is to return to the quiet work of tending our “gardens”, nurturing what’s been planted in our lives with intention and gratitude.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
What we’ve come to understand deeply is that heritage isn’t just something you inherit, it’s something you build every day through the way you love your family. Marriage, parenthood, and the rhythms of home are where legacy begins.
The world often celebrates big moments and public achievements, but the real, lasting impact happens quietly, in the way you show up for your spouse, the stories you tell your children, and the values you pass down without even realizing it. Those small, consistent acts of love and faithfulness become the foundation future generations stand on.
That understanding shapes everything for us as parents, as partners, and as artists. It’s why we’re drawn to capture love and family with reverence because those moments aren’t just memories, they’re the beginning of someone’s heritage.
