Inspiring Conversations with Amanda Levy of Dr. Amanda Levy OT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Levy.

Hi Amanda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey as a mental health professional started with my own struggles. After starting college at USC, I noticed my mental health declining and eventually sought treatment at PCH Treatment Center in Mar Vista. 10 years later, after earning my doctoral degree, I applied to work at PCH and began treating clients there. This led to me being hired by a psychiatry group called Hope Integrative Psychiatry, where I continue to work as a mental health provider. For me, having experienced my own mental health issues allows me to approach treatment through a lens of understanding and compassion. I approach therapy with warmth, honesty, and curiosity.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Getting to where I am at today has not been easy! Starting a private practice during Covid was one of the more challenging aspects of my journey. I found that perseverance and patience were instrumental in helping me move forward despite various setbacks.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My practice is unique in that I am a mental health occupational therapist- this lens of treatment focuses on helping others create a life worth living, full of meaning and fulfillment. I support others in building positive coping skills, managing depression, anxiety, trauma, and ADHD (among other diagnoses), and creating routines and habits that support emotional wellness. I am also trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) and brainspotting, both of which focus on trauma recovery. I offer sliding scale services to accommodate people of all income levels and offer around-the-clock support outside of sessions.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am an avid reader- some of the books that have helped me do my best in life include: “Don’t Believe Everything You Think” by Joseph Nguyen, “Existential Kink” by Carolyn Elliott, “The Fifth Agreement” by Don Miguel Ruiz, “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel Van Der Kolk, and “The Happiness Trap” by Russ Harris.
