Hidden Gems: Meet Britani Golden of Housekeeping Bookkeepers & Accountants

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britani Golden.

Hi Britani , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have practiced accounting for over 20 years. I have vast experience in the public and private accounting sectors. I hold a BS in Accounting and an MBA in Accounting and Finance.

I’ve always been drawn to the structure and clarity that numbers bring to businesses. Early in my career, I worked for small to mid-sized businesses where I learned that accounting isn’t just about balancing the books – but helping people to make informed decisions with confidence.

Over time, I gained experience in everything from day-to-day bookkeeping to financial reporting, tax compliance and preparation and business strategy consulting. I’ve build a career on being detail-oriented but quite personable – someone who could translate financial information into something business owners and execs could actually use.

Today, my career is a culmination of that journey. I am not just a practicing accountant who records and translates financial information, but a professional that clients can trust. After 20 years in the field, I take pride in knowing that I provide the technical accuracy, education and personality that businesses need to thrive.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My career took off rather quickly. I was a Controller of a private company 4 years after graduating from undergrad. At that time, there weren’t a lot of women at the financial helm of a company. One of the struggles was gaining the respect from business owners and colleagues who were predominantly male. I have since learned that people are forced to respect you if you are good at what you do, and do so with an amenable attitude.

Work-life balance has had its challenges. Accounting is often deadline-driven – especially during year-end and tax season. Learning how to manage stress, prioritize and delegate is essential to sustain a career – but having time off to enjoy and recharge is mandatory; only when you are personally balanced can you give the dedication to your career that is necessary.

Another challenge has been navigating the technical side of the job with the human side. Many clients feel overwhelmed or intimidated by financial discussions. Experience teaches you how to bridge that gap. I learned how important it is to communicate financial information in a clear, approachable way. After all, accounting is more than just numbers.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Housekeeping Bookkeepers & Accountants?
Housekeeping specializes in providing robust bookkeeping and accounting services to solopreneurs, small to mid-sized companies and non-profit organizations. Our services are remote so that we can work and access financial information from anywhere.

The personal touch we offer clients separates us from most traditional firms. From remembering specific details of a client’s business or sending proactive check-ins we make them feel valued. That touch allows us to add context; not just speak about numbers (which can feel transactional). We explain trends, celebrate the company’s wins, warn of risks, and assist with other administrative functions such as HR and office management – all things that really matter to the client.

Because we are remote, automation and AI are essential in this evolving industry. These platforms allow the recording and tracking of financial information to move quickly and accurately. However the personal element that Housekeeping offers – listening, advising and tailoring services is what sets us apart.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Feeling valued brings me happiness. Whether in business or in interpersonal relationships, feeling as if your presence to an individual or a company is a positive contribution is enlightenting.

I spoke about work-life balance – we often underestimate it’s importance. You must be happy with both. Most of us spend more time at work and with co-workers than we do with family and friends. It is important to do what you love and to spend time with those that you love and those that love you.

Time is a commodity that only increases it’s value if you are happy as it moves along. Otherwise it can feel burdensome. Find what makes you happy and lean into it!
