Meet Ishmael Mayhew of Ish Content in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ishmael Mayhew.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ishmael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was in school majoring in Media Communications when I started developing my own websites because I couldn’t afford to hire someone to do it for me. It organically turned into a side hustle while I was in college and helped me make some money during my education. After graduating college, I began to manage social media accounts for various celebrity musicians and athletes along with notable brands and companies in fashion and e-commerce. Recently, I decided to shift my career path and pursue my lifetime passion of fashion design. I’ve never been afraid to take risks, and I feel like that’s what has helped propel my career to new heights. Fear has never rewarded me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I can attest that nothing about my story has been smooth. There have been instances where I have been taken advantage in regards to keeping my ideas safe and the value of my talent. Throughout my career, being young and a person of color has often times marginalized my efforts professionally, which can put an emotional toll on your self-esteem and endurance. It took a lot for me to overcome those types of blockages, but I managed to get through them and be stronger in the long run. I believe if you can push through similar scenarios, you have the tools necessary to be successful.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Ish Content is a growing hub of art & fashion that strategically fuses the two effectively. My clients are top priority and we aim to please them first, but Ish Content also serves as a place to create and share engaging content that speaks to multiple audiences. Beyond that, I’m happy to be finally emerging as an established designer and although it can be an expensive process, it’s certainly a fun experience. What sets me apart from other creatives in the industry is that my heart is invested into the business model. I literally create what I want and it is always done in excellence because the work is always best when it’s created wholeheartedly.

What were you like growing up?
I was a lot like I am now. As a kid I was always opinionated, social but I had a shy side, creative and a bit of a perfectionist. Growing up, I was very empathetic and felt deeply and I think it made me a better creative.
