Today we’d like to introduce you to Casie Goshow.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Casie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2012 both my partner and I got fired from our jobs in NYC. We had no idea how we were going to make rent next month so we walked to a bar and drew up the logo that day for Go show Yourself on a napkin. I am a professional dancer and I travel all around the country teaching kids dance year-round. I started selling T-Shirts in the cities I taught in and I would always sell out. My partner said let’s make this a legitimate business and start a clothing line. We are going strong in our 6th year of business and still growing.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not lol. When you start any new business you’re always going to come across obstacles and problems that you’ve never encountered before. The first pair of leggings we made we went through a company in China and made the mistake of not ordering a sample before we bought the product. let’s just say to this day we always order a sample no matter what.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Go show Yourself – what should we know?
As a professional dancer and educator to many youths around the country I always make sure my clothing line is in line with what I stand for and always being a positive role model for kids to aspire to be. We specialize mostly in athletic/urban where that is designed for any gender to wear (unit-sex). What sets us apart from others is that we are dance wear line focused on comfort and style our motto is to always be you. Our tag line is “dare to be you.” A lot of kids today struggle with being who they are whether they feel bullied or not sure of their sexuality or gender and we want them to know that we support them and we are here for them.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Our main seller is our 5678 snapbacks. As a dancer I always struggled in finding cute urban wear for kids to wear for my hip-hop pieces and I also noticed that 5678 is something that we say every day while teaching class and no one was making any clothing line with that on it. The other key to our success has been traveling around the country and self-promoting our clothing line while I teach classes.
