Joshua, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes—and here’s why: I solve problems before they cost you money.
If I were on the other side of the table, hiring someone to build my brand’s online presence, I’d want a partner who doesn’t just follow instructions but sees around corners. That’s how I approach every project. I ask the questions no one else does. I’ll challenge vague goals. I’ll stop a project mid-scope if I realize something’s misaligned—because launching the wrong site faster isn’t a win.
I’d hire me because I don’t pretend to be everything to everyone. We’ve said no to plenty of projects where we knew we weren’t the best fit. That’s not about being picky—it’s about protecting the client’s investment.
On the flip side? I’m not the fastest option. If I were shopping for “cheap and quick,” I’d skip me. What I bring is clarity, a systems-based process, and a team that cares just as much about ROI as the pixels.
So yes—I’d hire me. But only if I was serious about growing something real.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Joshua Maddux—founder of 95Visual.
We’re not your average web and marketing agency. We don’t do templates. We don’t sell fluff. And we don’t believe a website should just “exist.” I started 95Visual after seeing too many businesses waste money on beautiful but broken websites—ones that looked great but did nothing to grow the business.
What makes us different? We treat every project like a strategic investment. That means asking tough questions, building systems that support growth, and designing every site like it’s your best salesperson—because it should be.
Right now, we’re focused on helping service-based businesses—especially in B2B—clarify their message, refine their customer journey, and turn their site from a pet rock into a growth engine.
And yes, we still believe good strategy beats good luck, every time.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Honestly? I was the kid who wanted to build things, take them apart, then rebuild them better. I was figuring out how things worked.
Before the world told me I had to pick a major, get a “real job,” or follow some linear career path, I was just curious. I didn’t care about labels. I cared about solving puzzles and making things work. That mindset stuck with me—even as the world tried to convince me success had to look a certain way.
When I launched 95Visual, I didn’t have a business plan or fancy funding. I had one skill: solving problems other people gave up on. And it turns out, that’s exactly what a lot of businesses need—someone who sees past the surface, who builds with purpose, and doesn’t quit when it gets complicated.
That kid’s still here—just with better tools and a team now.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Impostor syndrome, hands down.
Years ago when I launched In The Bunker podcast, I had episodes recorded and edited—but I didn’t publish. Not because they weren’t done, but because I didn’t think they were “good enough.” I’d convinced myself they had to be perfect. That I had to sound like I had it all figured out. And so I kept pushing the launch. January became February. February became March. I spiraled in my head with questions like, “Who am I to do this?”
The irony? That same fear shows up for a lot of my clients, too. Business owners who are great at what they do, but feel like they’re faking it because they don’t have an office, or a huge team, or because they’re not “polished” enough. I’ve learned that voice in your head—the one that says, “You’re not legit”—doesn’t go away when you reach a milestone. It just finds a new benchmark to use against you.
What’s helped me push through is recognizing that fear as a signal, not a stop sign. It’s a reminder that I’m stretching. And the antidote isn’t bravado—it’s humble confidence. I don’t need to pretend I have all the answers. I need to stay curious, stay real, and keep showing up anyway.
That mindset has changed how I lead my team, run my business, and build relationships—with clients, collaborators, and honestly, with myself.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Helping small businesses punch above their weight online.
I’ve been in this game long enough to see a painful pattern: big companies with deep pockets dominate visibility, while small businesses with better service and stronger values struggle to get found. That imbalance drives me.
I believe that with the right strategy, clear messaging, and smart systems, a local business can compete with—and often outperform—its bigger competitors. Not by outspending them, but by outsmarting them.
It’s why I built 95Visual. It’s why I invest in education, not just execution. And it’s why I still get excited when we help a client go from invisible to in demand.
This mission isn’t tied to trends. It’s not something I’m doing until the next shiny thing comes along. It’s something I’ll keep building—one strategy, one site, one success story at a time.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was built for—but I didn’t always know it.
No one handed me a roadmap to entrepreneurship. I wasn’t told, “Go build a business.” I was told to play it safe, get a stable job, follow the system. But something in me kept pulling toward solving problems, creating systems, and helping people get unstuck. I just didn’t have a name for it yet.
The moment I stopped listening to what I was “supposed” to do and leaned into what energized me—strategy, clarity, building with purpose—that’s when everything shifted. That’s when I stopped feeling like I was swimming upstream.
So no, I wasn’t told to do this. I wasn’t “picked” or certified or fast-tracked. But looking back? This is the work that fits. It makes use of my brain and my values. It pushes me to grow and helps others do the same.
