Hi Kady, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misconceptions about our business is that we are just a nanny matchmaking service or a glorified job board. At The Nanny Edit, we’re not simply connecting families with caregivers, we are curating an intentional, high-touch experience that safeguards homes and elevates the nanny profession.
People often don’t realize how complex and personal this process is. We are not just filling roles. We are building long-term relationships rooted in trust, alignment, and shared values. We take the time to deeply understand the needs of each family and the unique strengths of each nanny, so the placement isn’t just a match – it’s a fit.
There is also a widespread misunderstanding about what it means to be a professional nanny. These are highly skilled individuals who bring education, structure, emotional intelligence, and consistency into a child’s life and they deserve to be treated as professionals. We advocate for legal pay, contracts, benefits, and ongoing communication because we believe both nannies and families thrive with clarity and respect.
At the end of the day, The Nanny Edit isn’t about volume, it is about integrity, intention, and making sure every placement feels like coming home.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Kady Kearns, founder of The Nanny Edit, a nationwide, referral-based nanny and household staffing agency built on trust, heart, and high standards.
With over 22 years of hands-on childcare experience, ranging from professional nannying to teaching and supporting foster families, I saw firsthand how broken and impersonal the placement process could be. I launched The Nanny Edit to change that.
We are not your average agency. We offer a curated, deeply personalized approach to matching families with professional nannies, newborn care specialists, private educators, and other household staff. What sets us apart is our commitment to safeguarding families and advocating for caregivers. Every placement is rooted in alignment, respect, and long-term success, not just filling a position quickly.
Since launching nationwide, we have helped countless families across the U.S. find their perfect household support while elevating the careers of passionate, qualified nannies. We are also building out a suite of tools and resources, from hiring guides to annual review guides, to ensure every family and nanny feels informed and empowered throughout the journey.
At The Nanny Edit, we lead with empathy, set the bar high, and do things differently. We’re not here to blend in. We are here to change the way people think about in-home care.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One moment that truly shaped how I see the world was the birth of my daughter. She arrived 11 weeks early and spent over two months in the NICU, and those weeks were filled with uncertainty, fear, and an overwhelming amount of love.
Sitting beside her tiny incubator day after day, I realized just how fragile and sacred life is and how much support matters during life’s most vulnerable moments. That experience gave me a new lens, not just as a mother, but as a business owner. It deepened my empathy, sharpened my priorities, and lit a fire in me to build a business rooted in care, advocacy, and protection for families and nannies alike.
That chapter reminded me that we are all just trying to do our best, whether it’s raising a child, finding the right caregiver, or navigating life’s curveballs. It’s why The Nanny Edit isn’t just a staffing agency to me, it’s a way to create more stability, support, and peace of mind for others, because I know firsthand how life-changing that can be.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Something I’ve learned through experience is that flexibility isn’t just helpful in business, it’s essential. In the world of household staffing, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, and the needs of families are constantly evolving. Add in an unpredictable economy, and it became clear early on that the ability to pivot wasn’t a backup plan, it was the plan.
There have been moments when I had to completely shift gears, whether that meant adjusting our service offerings, creating new resources to meet families where they’re at, or finding ways to better support caregivers navigating uncertain times. Each pivot wasn’t a failure, it was a response to real needs.
Those experiences taught me to stay curious, open-minded, and proactive. At The Nanny Edit, we’re always asking, What do families and nannies need right now? and How can we serve them even better? That mindset has kept us grounded and growing, even when the landscape keeps changing.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
One belief I’m deeply committed to, no matter how long it takes, is elevating the perception of caregivers and normalizing legal, ethical employment practices in this industry.
Professional nannies and household staff play an essential role in the lives of families, bringing expertise, structure, and heart into the home. At The Nanny Edit, we’re proud to celebrate that professionalism and raise the standard of excellence to reflect the true impact of this work. Through education, advocacy, and intentional matchmaking, we’re helping families and caregivers build relationships rooted in respect, alignment, and long-term success.
I envision a world where families feel empowered to hire legally, where contracts, benefits, and clear communication are the norm, and where nannies are recognized and respected as the career professionals they are. It’s a slow shift but a meaningful one. And I’m in it for the long haul.
Because when caregivers are treated with dignity and families are supported with transparency, everyone thrives. That’s the legacy I’m building, one placement, one conversation, and one mindset shift at a time.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Something I understand deeply, something many people don’t, is just how nuanced and personal hiring a caregiver really is. On the surface, it might seem like a simple exchange: a family needs help, and a nanny provides it. But in reality, it’s so much more complex.
You are not just hiring someone to follow a schedule, you are welcoming a person into your home, trusting them with your children, and building a working relationship that deeply affects your family’s daily life. It takes emotional intelligence, clear boundaries, mutual respect, and aligned values to make it work well.
At The Nanny Edit, we know that a successful match isn’t just about resumes and references, it’s about chemistry, communication, and long-term compatibility. That is why we take such a personalized, intentional approach. Because when you truly understand the human side of this process, you realize it’s not transactional, it’s transformational.
