An Inspired Chat with Stefano Ashridge

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Stefano Ashridge. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Stefano, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think we all struggle with self-doubt in various aspects of life to some degree, especially when it comes to things that we care about.

It helps to have the right mindset about what we’re doing and to have realistic expectations from our efforts.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
HI everyone, my name is Stefano Ashbridge. I am a working musician in the Los Angeles area, and I love sharing the joy of playing the drums. I run DrumLessonsInLA.com

I began teaching early into my drumming studies when my teacher asked me to fill in when he wasn’t available. My love of teaching grew right alongside my love of drumming, so it has always been easy to relate to my students’ frustrations and passion for this instrument.

I have played the drums on albums, toured internationally with a variety of artists, and even won the “Electronica Drummer of the Year” at the L.A. Music Awards. I have appeared on DrumChannel.com as a guest panelist and was asked to judge the “Hit Like a Girl” contest.

More importantly, though, I have coached hundreds of drummers of all ages and skill levels. Nothing makes me prouder than when my students learn their first song, play their first show, record an album, or go on tour.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents. They started a restaurant, and I learned their work ethic and how to run a successful business.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Music has always been there for me. I am grateful to God for music (and everything) to help get me through tough times.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
“One is either born with talent or not.”
Truth: Talent is developed by putting in the work.

“One method works for everyone.”
Truth: Every student learns differently; copying a rigid curriculum often fails.

“You must start young to be good.”
Truth: Adults can learn just as deeply (sometimes faster if they’re motivated).

“Online lessons can’t work.”
Truth: Plenty of students thrive online if the teacher knows how to connect.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I am convinced we will all spend eternity somewhere. I think we have worked up enough for the wrath of God, but forgiveness is available.
