Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jewel Zimmer

We recently had the chance to connect with Jewel Zimmer and have shared our conversation below.

Jewel , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Every morning just as I am waking up and still in theta state (when the brain is between subconscious and conscious, deep relaxation, intuitive and highly suggestible) I practice gratitude. This is followed by a 10minute meditation and journaling all before I get out of bed.
This practice lasts anywhere from 45min to an hour. Next steps, wake up my little, drink a cold glass of water with Juna’s detox ‘chlorophyll’ drops, make coffee ( always a latte) catch a couple minutes of sunlight and get ready for work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m one of the Founders of Juna- a wellness brand that formulates supplements for women to optimize detoxification, digestion, metabolic health, brain health, mood and sleep. Juna’s formulas are targeted to solve specific problems women face daily by harnessing the power of plants, probiotics amino acids and enzymes. Each product is clinically formulated with trademarked ingredients proven to work, consciously sourced and 3rd party tested for transparency, purity and potency.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Becoming a mother each time were the most profound experiences of my life. Feeling my body transform, accommodate and become alive in a new way opened my eyes up to what felt like another dimension. After my girls were born, while the experiences were different, they both inspired me on a macro level to reaccess my relationship in the world, my purpose, and the legacy I wanted to leave behind. On a daily level , they inspired heath and wellness; exercise and mindfulness, farm to table eating and a deep sense of community.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Juna was born out of personal necessity, a journey that unfolded over several years. After the birth of my oldest daughter, I experienced delayed postpartum anxiety. It showed up about 7 months after I gave birth. Each doctor I consulted seemed quick to prescribe medication assuming it was a hormone imbalance without diving into the actual root cause. I felt unseen, I was unheard, and incredibly isolated. This left the fate of my future health in my own hands.
Trusting my intuition, I turned to acupuncture to support my nervous system and an orthomolecular psychiatrist to help me reset my brain. Through comprehensive testing, we discovered that my body wasn’t producing amino acids as it should leading to severe and debilitating anxiety. Years later, while studying the microbiome at Stanford, I learned that amino acids are produced in the gut and are precursors to neurotransmitters, which are vital for brain function , mood and stress response. I underwent a nine-month regimen of a specialized amino acid blend, which helped me regain control over my mental health.

Conversations with other women and my co-founder, revealed that my experience was far from unique. Many women were facing their own health challenges, often feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about where to seek help that wasn’t a band-aid effect. As women, and new mothers we are collectively navigating the demands of modern life, often balancing careers, conscious parenting, and self-care and often find ourselves in a constant state of sensory and schedule overload, striving to ‘do it all.’ This collective struggle highlighted a pressing need for effective, non-pharmaceutical solutions bespoke to optimizing women’s health. Recognizing this unmet need led us to create Juna—a brand dedicated to providing clean, plant-powered wellness solutions designed to support women in achieving their optimal health and well-being. Helping other women feel their best is a constant source of my healing.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The health and wellness industry has a lot of influence, often suggesting that there is a one size fits all solution or a quick fix. Whether it’s a pharmaceutical or a supplement, there is no quick fix to health. While consistent and targeted supplementation are abaokutrd to reaching your desired health goals, there is more “work” involved. A health body and mind come from consistent healthy choices. I like to break it down into 4 circles. 1. Psychological: this how you think about your self; your mental stamina. If it’s not positive, you need to rewire your brain (gratitude works). Physiological: this is how healthy your physical body actually is. Access what’s going on and incorporate proactive changes. As an example, if it’s metabolic don’t count on just a glp-1 peptide, work on diversifying your diet, eating more protein, fiber and healthy fats and exercising. 3. Social: this is who you spend your time with. Question: do they make you happy, inspire you and lift you up. Of hey don’t, they are most likely causing stress which can lead to inflammation and poor health. A positive community is paramount to your health. Lastly, 4. Spiritual: having a spiritual practice is key to believing in something bigger than yourself. This thought alone reprograms the subconscious mind into faith which signals your nervous system that it’s safe. When this happens your cortisol drops, inflammation decreases, and immune function improves, making you physically healthier, mentally sharper and resilient.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
Nothing! You only live once and nothing should stand in your way from what you are drawn to. It’s always. Been in my DNA to ask the question; “ if I don’t do this will I regret it”? If the answer is yes, I make it happen as fast as possible.
