Michelle Berc’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Michelle Berc shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Michelle, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misconceptions about my business is that sound healing looks simple on the surface—someone buys a few instruments, plays them, and it’s instantly healing. In reality, it’s far more technical and requires deep training. There’s a science to how instruments are paired, how sessions are designed to support the nervous system, and how to use sound responsibly to guide people into safe states of healing.

Behind the scenes, there’s also a lot of unseen labor and investment—curating instruments, learning how to care for them properly, structuring sessions with intention, and holding safe containers for participants. Just owning instruments doesn’t mean someone knows how to facilitate a healing experience. These sounds are more powerful than most people realize, and that power carries responsibility. My work is about teaching practitioners the skills, ethics, and awareness needed to use sound not just beautifully, but safely and effectively.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Michelle Berc, and I’m the founder of Sonic Being and The Sonic Being Method™ Sound Healing Training. I’ve been sharing sound healing in Los Angeles for over 17 years through public and private sound baths—everything from deep individual healing sessions to milestone celebrations like birthdays, baby showers, and housewarmings. I’ve even held space for some of the world’s most recognizable celebrities, though I’ve always kept those details private. For me, confidentiality and trust are far more important than publicity.

It’s been incredible to witness sound healing evolve—from the early days when only a handful of practitioners were offering sound baths, to today where Los Angeles has an event almost every night of the week. About eight years ago, my community began asking me to teach, which led to the creation of The Sonic Being Method™. Building this training from the ground up has been one of my greatest joys, and I’m proud to now offer a comprehensive certification program, including virtual training. My mission is to ensure sound healers are well-educated, skillful, and deeply aware of the responsibility that comes with this work.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding my training program and continuing to share seasonal outdoor sound baths in the Malibu mountains—there’s nothing quite like being immersed in sound and nature under the full moon. Looking ahead, I’m also excited to return to the studio and record a new album.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
When I say this, please know that I truly love what I do—it’s been my natural gift to bring people together and create experiences that elevate others. Yet, I’m ready to release the part of me that has overextended in service at the expense of my own creativity. Believe it or not, I’ve struggled with performance anxiety and stage fright for many years. I’ve transmuted layers of it, but there’s still something deep within me that longs to come out. By letting go of those fears, I can return to creating and sharing directly from my soul, stepping into a more authentic expression of my artistry and healing.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I was born with a vision impairment I once tried to hide, but it awakened my deepest gift—an extraordinary sensitivity to sound and vibration. Surgeries, glasses, and years of struggle shaped me, but they also tuned me to hear and feel the world in ways others cannot. What I once carried as pain, I now share as power—guiding others through the healing frequencies that became my own path to wholeness.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
love and stillness
