Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyce Ma.
Hi Joyce, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a twin mom and a dog lover, I’m all about building community and making genuine connections. I love meeting new people, trying out local restaurants, and exploring all the great events happening around town. My love for people and community is a huge part of why I ended up in real estate.
I’ve always been fascinated by real estate, and my interest really sparked back in 2021 when my husband and I bought our first home. That experience made me realize this was something I wanted to do for a living. At the time, I was working at a tech company and was worried about leaving my stable job.
Everything changed in early 2023. I was nearing the end of my maternity leave when I got laid off – a moment that turned out to be a true blessing in disguise. It gave me the push I needed and the security to finally take a leap of faith and change my career.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve never looked back. I absolutely love being a realtor. I get to meet new people, build amazing relationships, and work with clients I genuinely enjoy. I get to be fully present in my daily tasks, and best of all, I can be unapologetically myself without being told I need to speak a certain way to be taken more seriously.
This career has opened my eyes to so many different possibilities for building wealth, creating a brand, and designing a life I truly love. If I could talk to my 2023 self, I would tell her, “I’m so proud of you for making that decision.”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. A big part of the challenge was dealing with my own mindset. I’d constantly wonder, “Why would anyone use me?” or “How can I compete with everyone else?” On top of that, navigating the beginning years of becoming a twin mom felt like living in a constant tornado. Looking back, that experience helped me get a lot of clarity on what truly mattered and what could wait.
To get past the initial hurdles, I now do a kind of reset every year. I’ve learned that not everyone is going to be the right fit for how I work, and that’s totally fine – the clients who are meant to work with me will be drawn to what I have to offer. I also make sure to lean on my network of experienced agent friends, my broker, and my own research to keep learning and growing.
By consistently sharing my expertise and knowledge of the process, I’ve been able to show my community that I’ll always show up for them and have their best interests in mind.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I like to think of myself as a home matchmaker.
Whether you’re launching a home to sell or looking for your next perfect match, the first thing I do is understand the reason behind your move—the “why.” That transition almost always falls into one of the “6 D’s”: Diapers, Diamonds, Downsizing, Divorce, Death, or Da Job. By understanding the bigger picture, I can help families seamlessly transition into the next phase of their lives.
My commitment to this community runs deep. After the devastating Altadena fires, I made every effort to help displaced families find housing. That experience solidified my core belief: real estate is about more than just a transaction; it’s about being a guiding force in a major life change.
What sets me apart is my empathetic approach. I see myself as a facilitator and a guide, stepping into your shoes to walk you through different scenarios and possible outcomes. This is so you can feel completely confident and educated when it’s time to make a decision. This isn’t just about a transaction; it’s about being your guidance in a major life change.
I’m most proud of being a realtor that people fully trust and who they know always has their best interests at heart. I want my readers to know that I’ll show up for them and serve as their guidance throughout this entire process.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I’ve always wanted to live in Pasadena because, for me, it just feels like home.
It’s the perfect blend of city energy and natural beauty. You get the best of both worlds with amazing access to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife, while also being surrounded by gorgeous hiking trails, parks, and those iconic, oak tree-lined streets.
What truly sets Pasadena apart, though, is its incredible architecture. The city does such a great job preserving its historic buildings, which tell the stories of so many who have passed through here. It’s a living museum!
Beyond its charm, Pasadena is also a hub for big events like the Rose Parade and concerts at the Rose Bowl, but it’s still so community-focused. I also love exploring the different enclaves, each specializing in unique cuisines. Honestly, I can’t think of a single thing I don’t love about this city. It really is a utopia in Southern California.
