Maritza, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes. Without hesitation.
Because I don’t offer quick fixes or performance-based healing. I meet people where they are — clinically, emotionally, spiritually — and hold a grounded space for deep recalibration. My work doesn’t separate trauma from biology or spirituality from science. It weaves nervous system regulation, adrenal healing, functional medicine, Chinese medicine, and somatics into something that feels human. I would hire me because I don’t lead from ego — I lead from embodied integrity responding in real time to your biology, human experience and goals. Working with me is a collaboration paced at a sustainable rhythm that sets you up for success on your healing journey.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Dr. Maritza — I help people who struggle with the physical symptoms of adrenal fatigue start creating a holistic approach to their health that is doable, enjoyable & sustainable so that they can experience optimal mental and physical resilience.
I help people heal from the inside out — not just their symptoms, but the stories and experiences that led to the breakdown of their health. My work is rooted in the belief that anxiety, burnout, hormonal imbalances, gut issues — they’re not random. They’re signals from your body, telling you that it doesn’t feel safe & needs help.
My brand — The Way Yin — was born from my personal embodied experience of a health breakdown after being exposed to traumatic stress for far too long. In my own healing journey, I learned to reclaim boundaries to embody the deep medicine of softness, the wisdom of slowing down, and the knowing that healing isn’t linear. I’m currently building a 3-month cortisol balancing program that bridges trauma-informed care with clinical, evidence based strategy. It’s for those who’ve ignored their body’s cries for safety and are ready to repair the physical, emotional, and energetic toll of survival mode.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Unspoken resentment. Unacknowledged rupture.
Relationships fracture when we bypass our truth, when we pretend we’re fine to keep the peace, when we abandon ourselves even though something feels off.
What restores them is repair. Presence. Accountability. The courage to name what hurts — and the humility to listen. The capacity to hold shame when we’ve caused harm.
Bonds aren’t restored by perfection — they’re restored through repair. In the body. In relationship. In life.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I’ve lived between worlds for much of my life — culturally, emotionally, politically. Being raised on both sides of a border shaped my nervous system before I ever had language for it. Belonging always felt conditional.
As the daughter of an undocumented immigrant, raised in a low socioeconomic environment, I carried an unspoken pressure to prove myself — to overachieve, to push past discomfort in pursuit of a “better life.”
Attending a highly academic university (UChicago) was the pinnacle of that survival strategy. While I was grateful for the opportunity, it also trained me to override my body’s signals. I became addicted to caffeine, sacrificed sleep, and ignored my needs just to keep up.
Later, the emotional stress of a toxic relationship pushed my body past its breaking point. My adrenals were depleted. My gut was wrecked. My immune system was barely functioning. I had completely abandoned every signal of distress my body was sending. I thought pushing through was strength — but in reality, I was dissociating, and paying the price for it.
Healing didn’t come from one supplement or one big breakthrough. It came slowly, through a series of intentional choices.
Chinese medicine slowed me down and gave me relief.
Functional medicine saw the whole of me.
Gut repair. Somatic safety. Cortisol support. Ancestral healing.
This multi-modal approach is what ultimately created real change — because of course it did. We are multi-dimensional beings, and healing has to meet us on every level. To truly shift, I had to stop chasing symptoms and start listening to the deeper story my body had been telling me all along.
I’ve healed through slowness, stillness, and devotion — by reestablishing safety in my own system. And in holding space for others, I’m reminded again and again: healing isn’t linear, and it’s never solitary.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That healing is available through one single action — or that one supplement can be the answer.
In reality, healing is nuanced. It’s rarely about just one thing. Our bodies are far more complex — and thinking that colostrum (or whatever the current fad is) will fix everything is a complete oversimplification.
Your body isn’t expressing fatigue or hormone imbalances because of a breathwork deficiency, either.
True transformation comes from the synergy of micro-actions: nervous system regulation, behavioral shifts, environmental changes, and targeted supplementation personalized to your root causes.
What’s often missing is the why — the root patterns, the physiology shaped by lived experience, the rhythms of your life that led to the body’s breakdown in the first place.
Healing is about alignment — between what the body needs and how we’re living. That kind of healing isn’t fast, but it’s life-changing.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What light inside you have you been dimming?
The part of me that’s a storyteller.
So much of my work has been clinical, educational, and structured. Symptom A + Lab Results B = Protocol C.
But the part of me that speaks to the soul — through image, through poetry, through shared truth — I’ve been slowly inviting her back.
Because people don’t heal only with protocols. They need to feel seen, witnessed, held, validated — and reminded that they’re not alone.
That’s the light I’m cultivating these days.
