Megan WREN shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Megan , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are all about grounding and intention. I start by making my bed—it’s a simple habit that sets the tone for order and clarity. Then I make a latte and head out to the front porch, where I soak in the quiet beauty of the morning, pull tarot cards, and journal. That time really makes me happy.
Next, I move into some gentle stretching to awaken my body, followed by a tantra meditation practice. After that, I go into vocal warm-ups to prepare for the performance aspects of my work. By then, I’m aligned and ready to begin coaching my first clients of the day. As a personal trainer, holistic lifestyle coach, and performance artist, I rely on this mindful morning flow to show up for myself and for those I serve.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Megan WREN. I’m a hip hop/pop performance artist, I create high energy female power anthems rooted in truth, confidence, and self-expression. My journey into music didn’t follow the typical path, I discovered my talent for writing music later in life and shifted careers at 29, leaving behind convention to step into purpose.
What makes my work different is the fun hip/hop punk pop flair that I have going on with my music. It’s edgy, powerful, and makes a statement. It blends female empowerment with authentic expression and bold hooks. It’s really a reflection of my inner strength and power. The other unique thing about my music is my background in health and fitness. I’ve been a coach and spiritual practitioner for over 10 years and I really feel like that side of me gets a say in my art and I love it.
I’ve also created a movement called S.L.U.T.—Strong, Loud, Unfiltered Truth speakers—a counter-culture mission to ignite radical confidence and authenticity, especially among women. Right now, I’m focused on growing this movement, performing live, and using my platform to help others come home to their voice.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’d love to flip this question and answer who I was when I listened to what the world told me I had to be. I was always the “keep it quiet,” “stay in line” type with my head down, answering with “I don’t know” or “sure, no problem” because I was afraid of saying the wrong thing or causing conflict. I believed the “right” path was the traditional one: go to college, find a stable job, get married, buy a house — the whole American Dream.
But life had other plans. At 25, I became an entrepreneur, owning and operating a fitness center. That role completely took over my life and pushed me far from the “housewife” path. I had to become strong, loud, and confident voicing my opinions, negotiating, leading a team, and connecting with customers. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, taught me to be a leader, and forced me to speak my truth constantly.
After running that business and eventually closing it, my priorities shifted toward creating poetry and music. I wrote a poetry book called Bloom and began writing music, and the filter that the world told me I needed no longer exists. Today, I show up fully as myself… bold, expressive, and unapologetically me.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been many times I’ve almost given up. Honestly, it happens almost every week. Usually it lasts less than five seconds though. I’ll get frustrated practicing vocals, mad that I can’t hit a note the way I want, and I catch myself in the mirror thinking, What the heck are you doing? Who do you think you are? Why are you even doing this?
Then I remind myself: if this were easy, everyone would be doing it. Everyone would be putting in hours of practice, pushing their limits and stretching their perceived boundaries. And then I bring my focus back to the bigger picture and the purpose behind my work: raising vibration through my performances, songs, poetry, and coaching. That reminder keeps me going.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes… and no. The public version most people see is bold, outgoing, flirty, and performative. I love being in the spotlight, wrangling a crowd, and being a little “extra” on stage. I love putting together fun outfits, doing my hair and makeup, it’s a side of me I used to hide but now fully embody. That energy is 100% authentic.
At the same time, there’s an introverted side of me that loves oversized t-shirts, no makeup, a coffee on the porch, and just being alone a classic Midwestern gal. Sometimes when I go out like that, people don’t even recognize me, and I love that too. Both sides are very real and authentic; it’s just different expressions of who I am.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What pain do you resist facing directly?
I love this question because it asks you to face the pain directly. Without getting into too much detail, I’ve experienced a lot of betrayal in my life. I often reflect on my own role and ask how I may have contributed to the situations, but I think that’s been a way for me to minimize the hurt that lives inside.
There have been multiple times where I entrusted someone with my life or business, only for them to completely take a hard left turn without offering any support or exit strategy. I’ve been left betrayed, homeless, and couch-surfing until I could find a safe space. That kind of betrayal is incredibly hard to overcome, and it’s a pain I’m still learning to fully face.
