Daily Inspiration: Meet Marci Javril

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marci Javril.

Hi Marci, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Began dancing age 6, never stopped learning new movement forms of expression, drama, theatre, musicals, dance companies, kids classes, improvisation, computer interactive, world ethnic forms, dance techniques, yoga and breathwork trainings, bodymind methods, somato-emotional release, dance therapy, balance and acroyoga, firespinning, juggling, mindfulness thru flowarts, mental health, self development, spiritual seeking, so many paths…

I consider myself a natural artist, having learned improvisation early on, with a musical theatre background, it seemed to obvious for me to find ways to offer emotional expression through movement. This I did in so many ways, and with so many different people. Along the way bodywork, massage therapy, dance techniques were studied, incorporated, absorbed, and then given out again as my insights for healthy lifestyle and excellent vitality.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In first grade, I was forced to use my right hand to learn cursive writing, although I had already shown lefthandedness. Which I switched back to when I broke my right arm, right after my parents’ divorce. (Now I try to remain as ambidextrous as possible!) My mom moved us from her college town to her parents’ hometown, and we were cared for as Dependents, hanging out with my grandparents every weekend. We traveled all over the eastern US by new Cadillac, bc Grandpa had retired from GM. My mom went back to school, got a Masters in Library Science, and we 4 kids were raised as progressive voting curious adventurers, book reading musical theatre going art gallery lovers. Still to this day!

In my twenties I rebelled from my Christian Science upbringing, trying lots of drinking, drugs, sex and rock n roll one nighters, yup it was the 70’s, Ooops I got caught with drugs in Texas, spent lots of time in courts and probation for it, moved away from all that to Boulder, and became the choreographer for the Shakespeare Festival. My new boyfriend sent me to California to get Initiated into Yoga with the Woodstock guru Swami Satchidananda for a Retreat, afterwards I stayed in Venice beach with hipsters sharing water beds, and got all the STD’s of the day, had to take medicines for them.. Moved to Boston Cambridge, did art modeling, bike riding all over, listened to now famous jazz musicians from the Berklee school of music, sold my crocheted backpacks in Cambridge square, and was in 2 multiracial dance companies 1975-78.

Then, I went back to college, got sober, studied dance therapy, moved to the SF area to join the Contact Improvisation and Action Theatre groups, got wisked off to Europe to tour with jazz musicians, got involved with a Belgium photographer, ran away back to California, and then took a job teaching jazz and Aerobics in Japan. Little did I know, my boss was money laundering thru his dance studios, and I was there under a false visa. Oh dear! After a falling out with the Manager, and then a rehire, I found a way to retrieve my return plane ticket home, said a sweet goodbye, see you later to my Japanese boyfriend, and ran home to California once again. Once he revealed his mysogynist view, I turned his marriage proposal down, and went on to have a dual career in massage and dance.

In my early thirties, I became trained in orthopedic bodywork, and started my liver cleansing journey. Studying LYMPH MASSAGE and how to fortify the immune system, detox the lungs, colon and liver became my specialty, and I’ve taught it to hundreds of students, wrote a book, and have many videodemos. It is because this method cured me of chronic bronchitis, and it has kept me in excellent health for my lifetime, so I advocate self-massage strongly, and am blessed to have it as a consistent health habit.

When I was turning 40, I felt the baby clock ticking, and became enamored with a Brazilian man, married him, and he turned out to simply want a green card. So after 3 tumultuous years, having to get a 3 year restraining order, problems with the IRS, banks, etc, I escaped, we divorced, and I slowly became myself again. Realizing how I had piece by piece given up my freedoms was very humbling as well as eye opening, and I have been able to see the red flags of relationship abuse ever since, helping others learn the subtle yet devastating symptoms of inappropriate or unacceptable behavior.

My Mom and I had been best buddies during the 22 years she lived in the LA area, only ten minutes from me, When we had to move her to a senior home back East, I spent 3 months clearing out her very full 3 BR condo, seeing it all get thrown away, and became very depressed. So I took myself for a scuba trip to Belize, and had an amazing time at the famous Blue Hole, experiencing sharks, fish, and fabulous coral. Mom spent her last 7 years in a senior home back East near my siblings, and I had the difficult strain of only visiting once a year, watching her deteriorate, and remembering all her wisdom, humor, adventurousness, and family Love. My heart can easily bring wetness to my eyes when I think of her.

Overcoming Injuries? well I’ve had more than a few, but none requiring surgery. Each time, I go immediately to a specialist to get help, support, recovery, and repair.. Sure, some parts of my now 70+ bodytemple are not 100%, but in most cases, it’s all working quite well, flexible, strong, capable, lean, toned, and great sleep. As I’ve matured, my tendency for hypothermia has gotten worse, and it’s now difficult for me to stay warm enough to enjoy my scuba diving passion, so I’m heading towards just snorkeling in the tropics these days! A difficulty I can live with, having been on 165 spectacular dives all over the world during the height of coral reefs health.

Both of my feet have been stepped on/broken, my left little toe cracked/stubbed a few times, so my feet are rather crooked, they hate high heels, dislike shoes of most kinds, and prefer to be barefoot, doing floor improv, modern dance, acroyoga, sand walking, etc. This, too, I can live with, I use a Shiatsu foot massage unit, and wear acupressure insoles in my bedroom slippers!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a creative being, a seeker, innovator, collaborator, curiousity cat, and love to find things that somehow are disparate and yet the same. I love connecting things, I have a MacGyver attitude, and can experiment with what is at hand, to accomplish things others might find impossible or unreasonable, or didn’t even occur to them could be! I love camping, and can make things happen on the spot.

I am often on the early waves of things to come, such as working with computer graphics interactive and touring all over the world with collaborators in Arts & Science expositions and conferences! I was lucky enough to have a science mind and a dancer’s training, and interfaced well with real-time computer animation video technology and got invitations to perform from 1984-1992. WOW.

I learned Integral Yoga at age 21 from the Woodstock Guru, Swami Satchidananda and used this as my foundational dance practice for many years. Later trained and taught Kriya Tantra Yoga from 1998-2006, also taught Intimate Healing Touch for Intimate Partners of all genders at Burningman Festival from 2000-2005.

Learned Firespinning, juggling, fire fans, contact staff, and fire hooping starting age 60, and at age 70, started training in acroyoga and west coast swing classes!

When I was around 40, for 4 years, I volunteered and created STEP BEYOND (using hipHop, gymnastics, the Step platform, choreography, improv, and obstacle course style configurations). It was an alternative PE program for underprivileged kids for an after school program at Venice Boys & Girls Club. We met weekly in the summers and during school. We taped 4 episodes on the local Cable Tv channel.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m extremely sensitive to perfumes, smells, bass sounds, flashing strobey lights, cold chilly wind, and allergic to garlic and wool. i’m trained as a clairvoyant, can do remote readings, see auras, talk to people on the Other Side. I’ve been on 165 scuba dives all over the world, and have many hightales from the seas. I hitch-hiked all over the USA and Europe in the 1970’s. I was a vegetarian for 5 years in my twenties, since then I’m an omnivore, as well as I was a RAW DIET (meat, fish, fruit, milk, eggs, etc) gal for 4 years in my late 50’s, but came back to simple foods, lots of mini and mono-food meals. I’m stronger than most women my petite size because I’ve trained all my life in dance, yoga, martial arts, fire spinning, massage therapy, and acroyoga.
