Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Kaldjian.
Lauren, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my practice to solve two primary problems. First of all, there are not many options for specialized neurologic physical therapy and wellness in Los Angeles, and especially in the San Fernando Valley. Secondly, there are even fewer options for in-home specialized neurologic PT and wellness. I created Neurothrive PT and Wellness to solve these problems by providing specialized, mobile neurologic PT and wellness services so that people who are more comfortable in their home, can’t easily leave their home, or have trouble navigating around their home and community can get specialized care, too. I have the opportunity to really meet people where they are and address their mobility issues in the places where they spend the most time.
I get to help people who have been given a life-changing diagnosis or have experienced a life-changing injury and who are challenged by so many daily fluctuations in their physical and medical health, return to doing things that they love the most in life. Through my work, I am able to build relationships with my clients and truly partner with them so they can reach their highest potential and regain hope, confidence, and joy. The incredible privilege to help people transform their lives through movement and exercise is what has motivated me along my career journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have faced a number of challenges leading up to opening Neurothrive. Shortly after deciding to take the leap and open the practice, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. As challenging as the journey through cancer diagnosis and treatment was, it provided me insight into what my clients face as they navigate a serious life-long condition. I gained greater empathy and understanding for what my clients go through on a daily basis. I believe a genuine, cohesive relationship with each of my clients is imperative as it affords us the opportunity to work together towards recovery. Truly understanding how they feel and what they face, allows me to build that connection with them.
I am also the granddaughter of a stroke survivor and only had a few years to get to know my grandmother and experience life with her before her stroke. I experienced the immense loss and grief caused by a change in my relationship with her because of the lasting impact of her stroke. No family should have to experience this type of pain; however, so many do. Because of that experience, it is my mission to help every person I treat, regain hope, confidence, and mobility so that they can return to the things that are the most meaningful to them, continue to live life, and maintain relationships with the people they love.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I absolutely love working with people with complex or chronic neurologic conditions who are very motivated to return to the activities that are most meaningful to them. These activities could be as simple as walking in their home safely or as complex as returning to a sport.
Not only am I a specialist in neurologic physical therapy, but I love problem solving and really working with people to fully understand the underlying reasons and solutions for their movement impairments. For this reason, I often see clients who have seen many PTs but haven’t found the “right fit” yet, or those who have been told that there is nothing more that can be done for them. I believe there is always hope for improvement no matter how chronic or complex my client’s condition is. Even more importantly, I value connection and partnership. When I begin treatment with a new client, they become like family to me and vice versa.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Hope. Professionally and personally hope affords me perseverance, drive, optimism, curiosity, and gratitude. It has gotten me through obstacles in life and it is what I aim to instill in all of my clients. I’ve learned through my work that even with the most complex and devastating conditions, there is always room for hope, and it is an honor to help my clients see that too.
