Check Out Kelly Kennedy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Kennedy.

Kelly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Yoga has been a huge part of my adult life & I’ve been teaching for 22+ years. After some major life shifts, I found myself taking a teacher training for SUPYoga with YogAqua in Marina del Rey. This was May of ’23. The Ventura hub of that business came available in May of ’24, and I jumped at the chance to own a mobile paddle board yoga business!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For this particular business, it was a pretty easy start. Business was moving along, having a great time getting people on the water, dialing in my schedule, filling up classes. Then the truck died and wouldn’t pass inspection. So, after some deliberation I decided to buy a pickup and a 12″ trailer. I built out a rack system & now I’m even more mobile. It was a good thing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Teaching Yoga is definitely a creative outlet for me. It’s a beautiful practice that blends art and science. I (usually) feel comfortable teaching and have a sense that it’s channeling through me, speaking through me, like I am part of a natural flow. There are times I don’t remember what I taught. I come in with a rough plan, and the class takes on a life of its own.
I think what sets me apart is my experience in life. I’m learning (& struggling) to live the teachings of yoga. I am a pretty sensitive person. I’ve learned what I need to have around me in order to thrive. I’ve been able to leave some heavy stuff behind and teach from a compassionate, heartfelt space. I truly believe we are all doing our best and deep down all want the same things. Peace, safety, friends.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I do consider myself a risk taker though that has mellowed with age. (At times I consider myself a total wimp, too.)
Taking risks is just part of who I am ( good examples – the many times I’ve driven across country by myself, and I took the leap and opened a yoga studio-unfortunately right before Covid.)
I still need to look in the mirror quite often and say “You can do this. You’ve got this.”
SoulShine SUPYoga is my 3rd entrepreneurial endeavor, and I’m grateful my path has encouraged it.
