Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilary Lentini.
Hilary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hailing from Chicago, I feel I should have been born in Los Angeles. From day one I have loved it here: the people, the energy, the creativity, the acceptance, the beauty and the weather!
With a professional background in Advertising, and a BFA in Communication Design from UIC, I was ready to start my own company in L.A. in 1997. Working with clients in the B2B space, non-profit and government sectors whose common thread was making a difference, improving the lives of others, and educating to empower all, we have built Lentini Design & Marketing (LDM) into a thriving marketing agency powerhouse.
I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention NAWBO-LA (the National Association of Women Business Owners-Los Angeles chapter). I am a long-time member and just wrapped my Presidency. I wanted to give back to an association that was instrumental in the growth of my company, the development of my skillset, and in giving me my network of dear friends and colleagues.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been fairly smooth, with some bumps along the way as we grew.
I think it’s been relatively steady for me for two reasons: I’m a life-long learner, so am always educating myself on what I need to know for the next step. And I freely admit that I don’t know what I don’t know. So I bring in experts to advise me as often as I can.
For instance, before I incorporated and had payroll, corporate taxes, retirement plans for my team, etc., I didn’t know the key financials you need to know day-to-day. I had to learn about P&Ls, Balance Sheets and Cash Flow.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lentini Design & Marketing story. Tell us more about the business.
LDM is Branding and Marketing firm that makes-over static brands into dynamic businesses. We work with established businesses, government-sector and non-profits whose brands have gone stale and whose sales or development have gone flat.
With our proprietary process, we enable our clients to discover their special “magic.” We reenergize their brand visuals and their digital presence via websites, online advertising, social media, and email campaigns. We’re passionate about Content Design, and truly love what we do!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
While I can appreciate the concept of “luck” I think there’s so much more to it than that. Every opportunity that’s been put in front of me, I have taken. That’s not luck. That’s a choice to never say no.
I think we all have “lucky” things happen for us. The difference is — what do you make of that door that was opened in front of you. Do you walk through it? Do you shy away? I’ve always pushed myself to cross the threshold.
Especially if just the thought of taking on that opportunity scares me. It’s then that I know I MUST take it on. This intentional way of responding to opportunities has always served me well.
