Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Lee.
Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always believed that the most fulfilling careers are built at the intersection of personal passion and professional purpose. That belief has been the driving force behind every step of my journey, guiding the opportunities I pursued and the people and projects I chose to work with.
I began my career in the agency world, gravitating toward brands and industries that spoke to me. Being from LA, I felt an innate pull toward entertainment. That passion quickly translated into early roles supporting major studio clients like Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures. From there, my scope expanded to include music labels such as Universal Music Group and gaming giants like Hasbro.
That foundation led me to pivot into brand-side roles in live entertainment, where I had the opportunity to work on tours and events with some of the biggest global artists during my time at Live Nation and AEG Presents. When the pandemic hit, I found myself asking: What’s captivating people now? The answer was clear—streaming. That insight guided me to HBO Max, where I led Acquisition & Growth Marketing, helping shape how audiences discovered and connected with content during a time when it mattered more than ever.
Today, that journey has come full circle. I’ve launched my own consultancy dedicated to helping DTC brands grow and thrive, bringing performance-driven strategy and access to expertise that helps unlock their next chapter.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While my career has been shaped by passion and purpose, the path hasn’t been without its challenges, particularly as a Korean-American woman navigating industries where leadership often looks and sounds very different from me.
Early on, I grappled with imposter syndrome. Despite having the credentials, the work ethic, and the results, I often questioned whether I truly belonged in the rooms I had worked so hard to enter. It wasn’t just about proving myself to others, it was about learning to believe in myself.
Culturally, I was raised to lead with humility, to respect hierarchy, and to let the quality of my work speak for itself. But in the environments I was in, especially in fast-moving, high-profile industries like entertainment and tech, those values sometimes clashed with the expectation to self-promote. I had to learn, sometimes painfully, that being quiet didn’t mean I lacked ideas, and that advocating for myself wasn’t arrogance, but necessity.
Leadership, for me, came quietly at first. I wasn’t the loudest voice in the room, but I led with thoughtfulness, and consistency. I focused on outcomes—delivering results through strategic thinking, clear execution, and collaboration. Over time, I learned how to balance my natural leadership style with the assertiveness needed to be heard and respected. I worked to turn what were once seen as cultural limitations into strengths: listening deeply, navigating nuance, and leading authentically. Today, I lead with intention, not just to be visible, but to create meaningful impact and drive performance in ways that are sustainable and people-centered.
Now, as I lead my own consultancy, I bring all of that with me. I show up not just as a strategist, but as someone who has learned what it means to build a career without sacrificing identity. And I use that experience to help others, especially women and people of color, step into their power without feeling they have to change who they are to be seen.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve come to believe that what many people call “luck” is actually the intersection of preparation, intention, and relationships. There have certainly been moments in my life and business that felt serendipitous— unexpected opportunities, chance encounters, or doors opening at the perfect time. But over time, I’ve come to see these moments not as random, but as the natural outcome of consistently showing up and building meaningful connection
Those moments happened because I had invested in building genuine relationships, maintained visibility in my industry, and positioned myself to be ready when opportunities arose. The “luck” was really my network recognizing my capabilities and thinking of me when the right situation presented itself.
I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, even the challenging moments that initially felt like setbacks. What seemed like bad luck—not landing a role, a project falling through, or facing unexpected obstacles—often redirected me toward better opportunities or taught me essential lessons I needed for future success. These experiences forced me to pivot, adapt, and ultimately led me to where I am today with LL Consulting.
The power of your network cannot be overstated. When someone refers you for a project, introduces you to a potential client, or thinks of you for an opportunity, that’s not luck, that’s the compound effect of investing in people and relationships over time. The relationships you build, the value you provide to others, and the trust you establish create what appears to be lucky breaks.
Rather than waiting for luck to strike, I focus on being intentional about the connections I build, the value I create, and the energy I put into the community. When you operate from this mindset, you start to realize that luck isn’t something you wait for, it’s something you help create.
