Life & Work with Fernando PERDOMO of Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando PERDOMO.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida from Cuban immigrant parents. I was the first of the family born in the states because even my older brother was born in Cuba. My mom was one of the founders of The;Miami Herald’s Spanish edition. I got my start in music via the Miami public school system.

I was fortunate enough to be part of the Miami Beach Senior high school rock ensemble under the tutelage of Doug Burris. By the time I graduated from high school I had already played hundreds of shows and hundreds of songs on stage. I immediately joined a bunch of bands and played pretty much every night. I also developed a love for the recording studio and started working at different studios in Miami.

Eventually, I caught the year of a Songwriter named Nicolas Tovar. He had me play on a bunch of his demos that got sent to major latin artists. One of his songs that I played on was picked up by Mexican superstar Cristian Castro and he loved the guitar I played on the demo. That song called “No Hace Falta” was the number one hit. I got brought in to play on the rest of his album. “Amar Es” and I did the tour.

This led to me playing on two other number one albums, “Gran City Pop” by Paulina Rubio and “The Underdog” by Tego Calderon.

After the passing of my mother, I decided to move to Los Angeles in 2012. Los Angeles has been everything I ever wanted, and everything I’ve been worried about in the music business. I absolutely love it here and it’s been a real joy to expand my horizons as a producer, singer/songwriter, and session/touring guitarist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s always difficult to make a living in the music industry. But I truly enjoy running a studio and working with Singer Songwriter to get their songs sounding great. But I also have to hustle to get work. I also do Music for film, remote session work, and co write songs. I also enjoy releasing albums…. and I release a lot

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am very prolific and have over 100 releases on my bandcamp page. I have become very well known for my instrumental progressive rock albums. In 2025 I have set out to release 12 albums with one coming out monthly. I’m about to release Waves 6 which is the sixth album I will release this year. I’m also supplementing the waves series with other releases. In 2026 I plan on doing even more. It seems like a lot to most people, but I really enjoy making this much music because I cannot repeat myself therefore, I am expanding as a musician to stay fresh.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve had to take a lot of risks to be able to do what I do. First of all, there’s no regular income and I truly rely on getting hired by others to pay my bills. In the end I make it by but I’ve had some hairy months in the past. Luckily I have very loyal clients and Newport seem to pop up every week..
