Hi Danielle , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey started in a really organic and personal way. I was gifted a candle-making kit by my husband, and what began as a creative outlet quickly became something deeper for me a form of healing and calm, especially while living with sickle cell anemia. Making candles brought me a sense of peace I hadn’t experienced in a long time.
From there, I began exploring clean ingredients and sustainable practices, which led me to launch Retreat Aroma, a brand focused on non-toxic, hand-poured candles, wax melts, and room sprays designed to help people unwind in luxury. I’ve since grown from making products in my kitchen to building a full sensory experience, including a signature Wax Melt Bar for markets and private events. It’s been a journey fueled by purpose, resilience, and a lot of learning, and I’m proud of where it’s going.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped the brand into what it is today. One of the biggest hurdles has been balancing Retreat Aroma with my full-time job and managing my health. There have been moments of burnout, self-doubt, and feeling stretched thin but I’ve learned to honor my pace and protect my creative energy.
Another challenge has been navigating the business side everything from sourcing sustainable materials to handling production, packaging, and building brand awareness. I wear a lot of hats, and that continues to be a challenge as the brand grows. But those moments have taught me resilience, how to pivot, and how to trust the process.
What keeps me going is the feedback I get from customers, the way they connect with the products, how they describe using them during their slow mornings or self-care nights. It remind me that all the hard work is worth it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Retreat Aroma, I create non-toxic home fragrance products designed to bring calm, comfort, and beauty into everyday life. I specialize in hand-poured wax melts, candles, and room sprays made with clean ingredients like coconut soy wax, essential oils, and botanicals. Every product is crafted with intention both in scent and design to support slow living, self-care, and a more mindful home environment.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the Wax Melt Bar experience. It’s a standout feature at events, where customers can build their own box of melts and explore fragrance in a personal, playful way. It’s interactive, creative, and always sparks meaningful conversations.
What sets Retreat Aroma apart is our focus on experience and wellness. We’re not just selling products we’re creating moments. From our soft, minimalist aesthetic to the intentional ingredients we use, everything is designed to make people feel more grounded and at ease.
I’m proud that the brand reflects real life—its softness, its healing, and its joy. It’s a reflection of my journey, and I think that authenticity is what truly resonates with people.
What’s next?
I’m so proud of how far Retreat Aroma has come, and I’m excited to share that we’re growing. I’m working on expanding into more pop-up events, private bookings, and retail opportunities to reach even more people who value clean, intentional self-care.
You’ll also see more behind-the-scenes content, product launches, and ways to connect with the brand in real life. The goal is simple: continue creating beautiful, non-toxic products that help you slow down and feel good in your space.
Big things are coming, and I’m grateful for everyone who’s been part of the journey so far.
