Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Amoscato.
Tori, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In my early 20’s, I suffered from a musculoskeletal condition that left me in the kind of chronic pain that nothing could touch. I’d dabbled in so many different modalities that when I had my first BodyTalk session, it wasn’t lost on me that I got off the table in significantly less pain than I’d come in with, especially after something that seemed so gentle and esoteric.
In the years following that first session, I changed my life entirely: I left my PhD program, moved coasts, started studying Body Talk and then Traditional Chinese Medicine and made alternative health my career as my own health improved. I feel so fortunate now to work as an acupuncturist and BodyTalk practitioner, working with people to bring health back into balance and improve quality of life as they grow toward their greatest health potential.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not! From my perspective, there are challenges in anything worthwhile. For me, my biggest challenge was my health at the beginning. That’s what drew me to the life I have now and if I had the chance to do it over, there are very few things I would change. There are day-to-day challenges of owning a business; learning how to let it grow and how to maintain my own balance as I help people find theirs is something I’m always working on. Overall, I’d say that the obstacles have become my biggest lessons, as they’ve propelled me toward something better than I’d planned.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lark Acupuncture+Wellness – what should we know?
I’m a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist (L. Ac.) and a BodyTalk practitioner (CBP) and I work specifically with the mind-body connection. In my practice, I combine acupuncture and BodyTalk (along with a number of other physical modalities) to create treatments that are uniquely tailored to my patients’ specific needs. BodyTalk is based on the understanding that the body is capable of healing itself on all levels — physical, emotional, spiritual — and as an applied kinesiology system, it allows me to identify the body’s priority for healing via muscle testing. I carry out a treatment that’s directed by the body, and I use needles and herbs and other modalities within a session to enhance its effects. In respecting the body’s wisdom and in understanding that it knows what it needs to heal and in what sequence, my patients tend to heal quickly.
I’m interested in treating all types of health conditions but especially chronic health conditions with emotional components. I have a background in movement, dance and Pilates and specialized in orthopedic care, so I find that I work most often with pain conditions and chronic health cases. I believe in a team approach to wellness, which means that I refer out often when I feel a patient needs someone else’s expertise. And because I work in an integrated office, I’m lucky to be able to refer in-house when possible so we can treat a patient together.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
An open mind and a willingness to listen to my patients’ bodies — both what they say and what they don’t.
