We’re the team behind Stagger Coffee – Marc, Olivia, and Jae. We didn’t come from picture-perfect backgrounds or investor-loaded business plans. We came with grit, some savings, and a shared vision: to create a place where people could breathe. Not just another coffee shop, but a pause button for the chaotic rhythm of life.
Stagger was born out of a very real truth: we were all stumbling through our own mess, and instead of hiding it, we leaned into it. We knew we weren’t the only ones trying to keep it together while everything around us moved too fast. We wanted to build something honest, something warm – a space that made people feel less alone in the chaos.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our early days were a blur of short-staffed mornings and unpredictable chaos. There were days when we didn’t have enough ice to make it through the afternoon, so Jae drove across town, dumping bag after bag into the machine while fixing broken equipment between shifts. Marc pulled shots nonstop until his hands cramped — no breaks, no complaints. Olivia prepped into the night, only to turn around and do it all again with barely any sleep. No one asked for rest. Everyone showed up. That’s who we are.
We didn’t expect things to be easy, but the reality still hit hard. The biggest lesson? You don’t wait for balance – you find it in the middle of the mess. You keep going. You care more. You build something real, one imperfect day at a time.
