Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatema Lukmanjee.
Fatema, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2012, my first ever “food diary” was born in the form of a photo album on Facebook. It was just a place to keep track of all the restaurants I had been to, so when the time came to decide “what are we eating tonight?” I could make a decision quickly!
Fast forward to November of 2016. I launched @TheFoodiesaur, a page dedicated solely to food. Whether I baked it or bought it, that’s where I would share it. I never expected it to grow into what it did in just 1 year.
I suddenly went from being a girl who just liked food to being a “foodie influencer” who would get to cover events as media! I became part of something much bigger than I was before; I got to join a community filled with people who loved eating and taking pictures as much as I did.
Not only that, but I made some amazing friends and got the chance to work with restauranteurs and like minded individuals. When I started, I never imagined that this hobby would bring me so many fantastic opportunities and blessings. One day, I hope this will bring me closer to my ultimate goal – launching my very own dessert bar!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have definitely been some challenges. Instagram’s constantly changing algorithm has made growing hard for everyone, but it has challenged us to start thinking more creatively and really put out good content! It has also been a struggle to balance the foodie life with my real life because engaging, posting and constantly getting content can become like a full time job.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the TheFoodiesaur story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a girl who loves food and adventure. I am middleman and a story teller. I help restaurants use vibrant visuals to engage their audience and gain exposure while helping fellow food lovers discover exciting, new eateries. I provide recommendations and run giveaways which I think are a great way to give back to my audience. Overall, my goal is to spread my love of food with others and share my experiences in hopes that it will inspire them to try new things and get outside of their comfort zones too.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Definitely. However, I do believe that we make our own luck. When I first started the page, I really focused on building relationships, meeting new people and learning as much as I could. I think that is where I got lucky. I met some fantastic people who helped me grow and who are great friends of mine today.
