Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Schwartz.
Hi Zach, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Zach Schwartz, a music producer and DJ from Glendale, California. I got my start DJing bar mitzvahs while attending CalArts, simultaneously cutting my teeth into LA’s underground dance music scene. After college, I shifted into producing for a range of artists and released my first EPs (Rose Gold and Gold) on Dome of Doom in 2016. That same year, I built a puppet named LIL Z and debuted him in a 2018 music video called First Time. Funny or Die featured the video with the headline: “This Puppet Loses His Virginity to Awesome Dance Music and We Have Questions.”
In 2021, I released my first full-length album, Alphabet Soup Vol. 1, immediately followed by my first Drum & Bass EP Dream Jungle in 2022 on Play Me Records. Since then, I’ve released music with Mad Decent, Ram Records, Viper Recordings, and Space Yacht, and performed at festivals like Escape Halloween, Love Long Beach, as well as LA staples like Respect, Scenario, and Space Yacht.
These days, LMNOP isn’t just my artist name—it’s a duo: me and LIL Z. He’s a rave puppet with too much knowledge and zero chill. Our next full-length album drops this year on Play Me Records, diving deep into conspiracy-fueled mythology. Whether LIL Z is a psyop, a glitch in the matrix, or just my roommate… I’m not sure. But we’re not slowing down.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Balancing the creative hustle with real-life responsibilities has always been a challenge. I’ve held down various jobs just to keep the dream alive while trying to build something real as an artist.
Making dance music with a puppet co-star isn’t exactly the standard path, but what’s kept me going through all of it is the people around me. I’m lucky to have built a community of incredibly talented collaborators and friends who keep me inspired: Dr. Apollo, Joseph Luca, Tima Dee, Roy LaCroix, BZRKR, Skellytn, KILLSPENCER, Omar Edwards, Mikos Da Gawd, Olivia Prado, Lukas Heaven, Fat Tony, Yung Jake, and so many more.
Recently, I had the opportunity to produce five live remixes for Katy Perry’s new Lifetimes Tour, which felt like a full-circle moment—applying everything I’ve learned in sound design and performance at a massive scale. It reminded me why I do this in the first place: to create moments that connect people in the best way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Under the name LMNOP, I’ve built a world that blends serious sound design with satire. What started as a solo project has evolved into a full-blown collaboration with LIL Z.
I’m probably best known for pushing boundaries, both musically and conceptually. I try to create moments that are technically dialed-in but completely unexpected.
What sets me apart is how I bring over 10 years of acting school training into my live sets, which makes LMNOP feel more like a multimedia experience than just a DJ set. Whether I’m performing solo or with LIL Z, I want every show, track, and visual to feel like you’ve stepped into something surreal, but still strangely familiar.
At the end of the day, I’m building a universe where you can dance, laugh, question reality, and still leave with a solid bass face.
What are your plans for the future?
Right now, I’m deep in production on LMNOP’s next full-length album, which leans even harder into the sound and mythology we’ve been building—high-BPM Drum and Bass mixed with conspiracy-laced storytelling, wild visuals, and character-driven chaos. It’s easily the most ambitious thing I’ve done musically.
Beyond the music, I’m also working on a comic book that tells LIL Z’s origin story and expands the LMNOP universe into a full-blown narrative world. It dives into how he was created, what he’s really here for, and why he knows way too much about sound frequencies, shadow governments, and rave culture. The goal is to blur the lines between music, performance, and story in a way that hasn’t really been done in the bass world.
So yeah—big things are on the horizon. More music, more world-building, and more ways to bring people into this weird, bass-fueled, puppet-powered reality we’re creating.
