Check Out Cameron Thrower’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Thrower.

Cameron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the small town of Summerville, South Carolina, where my love for storytelling began early. At nine, I was acting in our local community theatre. That passion led me to study directing, theatre, and film in college before making the leap to California.

My first stop was AmeriCorps in San Jose, where I worked with students, helping them navigate issues like gang violence, racism, and homophobia. Hearing their stories deepened my drive to tell meaningful narratives, ultimately pushing me to pursue my love for filmmaking in Los Angeles.

Fifteen years later, I’ve written and directed numerous films, music videos, and commercials. My film Pretty Boy traveled to over 43 film festivals worldwide, and I had the opportunity to direct Oscar-nominated actress Maggie Gyllenhaal in my film, Beauty Mark. My work has been featured in The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and BuzzFeed, accumulating over 40 million views online.

While filmmaking and screenwriting are my main passions, photography keeps me grounded. That’s where CamGlammed Photography comes in. Photography allows me to slow down and capture people differently. It’s not just about creating beautiful images— it’s about telling a story in a single frame. Whether through film or photography, my goal has always been to capture raw emotion and authenticity.

As of now, I live in Los Angeles with my husband, Wiley, and two amazing pups, Brando & Bowie.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The pandemic was a major shift. When productions shut down, I had to pause and rethink things. That’s when I leaned into CamGlammed. Photography became a creative outlet I could control— a way to keep telling stories when everything else was uncertain.

Then came the strikes, putting another pause on filmmaking. While I fully supported them, it meant more waiting, more uncertainty. Once again, photography gave me a sense of momentum.

Like any filmmaker, I’ve faced the usual struggles—getting projects off the ground, finding funding, navigating an unpredictable industry. But every setback has pushed me in a new direction. I’ve learned to stay adaptable, keep creating, and never lose sight of why I started in the first place.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Through CamGlammed Photography, I specialize in portraits that capture emotion, confidence, and authenticity. My work is about more than just creating beautiful images—it’s about making people feel seen. Whether it’s high-glam, something more natural, or a bold, editorial look, I aim to bring out the essence of each person in front of the camera.

What sets my work apart is my background as a filmmaker. I approach photography with a director’s eye, focusing on storytelling, movement, and emotion in every shot. I’m not just taking pictures— I’m creating a moment, a feeling. That’s what I love most about photography: it allows me to capture people at their most vibrant and unfiltered.

Many of my images have been featured in Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, and other major entertainment outlets. Seeing my work published in those spaces is always a proud moment, but what means the most is the trust my clients put in me. Whether it’s actors, artists, or everyday people stepping in front of my lens, I love helping them see themselves in a new way. That’s what CamGlammed is all about—bringing out the bold, the beautiful, and the real.

Hit me up if you need some new shots!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was the kid with a big imagination, a love for storytelling, and a little bit of a nerd. I was always making short films with my middle school friends, roping them into whatever wild idea I had at the time.

Personality-wise, I was curious, creative, and maybe a little bit of an old soul. I loved observing people– the way they moved, spoke, reacted. That probably explains why I gravitated toward filmmaking. I was always interested in capturing moments through the lens of a camera.

Looking back, not much has changed. I’m still that kid who gets excited about a great story, whether I’m directing a film, writing a script, or capturing a portrait. The only difference now is that I get to do it professionally.
