Rising Stars: Meet Roxy Sud of Torrance, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxy Sud.

Hi Roxy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my yoga journey at the age of 18. I signed up for a gym membership and was always curious about the group fitness class the gym held. I would take the yoga classes here and there but would often feel distracted by the other gym goers.
At 23, I had a job that required me to work 40- 60hrs a week, staying late nights and meeting deadlines. I was stressed to the point where I was losing patches of hair called Alopecia.
When seeking treatment, it was recommended that I reduced the stressors in my life.
From then I decided to quick my stressful job and seek joy. Eventually i applied work the front desk of a yoga studio.
Working in the studio allowed me to take as many classes since I was already immersed in the environment.
From there, it was a natural progression to become a yoga instructor.

Now teaching yoga for 8 years, I pride myself in being an instructor that is relatable and optimistic. My teaching style is challenging yet fun and accessible for all levels.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
First initial struggle was finding a place to teach. At the time when i first recieved my certification it was hard to find teaching gigs and studios. You had to go through the process of audition and sometimes being turned down multiple times.

There has been alot of self doubt and imposter syndrome.
Starting off I idolized my teachers but also compared myself to live up to an unrealistic expectation.

I realized that just like what I preach, progress comes with practice.

Once I officially got hired on at a corporate yoga studio, it was amazing. However, eventually making this a way of full-income it was not the best route.
Post-quarantine it took me some time to find the perfect studio for me. But eventually I found and I am so much happier.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love this question because I ask myself this all the time.
And the answer changes time to time for the message is always the same.

The yoga classes I specifically teach are an experience. I want every person in the room to leave feeling like the accomplishment something. Whether it’s a physical or mental challenge or a mental unload. I take pride in bringing a little joy into others life even if it’s just for an hour of their day and creating community. I love sharing my passion for fitness to all ages and all body types.
I am proud of person that I am today. I am proud to do this for a living. I am proud to spread joy.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Discomfort is a part of the journey to growth.
