Today we’d like to introduce you to Tri Nohbi.
Hi Tri, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, I was born and raised in Chicago, IL and I started making music when I was 13yo. My dad gave me some of his equipment and my mom bought me a mic for my birthday. Fast forward to the year 2017, I released a song and put it on SoundCloud. Something I had done for years at that point. A few weeks later, I get a DM from Dion “NoID” Wilson saying he loves the music and wants to hear more. He flys me out to LA, I play him some music, I sign a deal a few months later. That’s when I started living in LA. The deal eventually falls through and in 2020 we have a pandemic. After the deal, I decided that I love music too much to stop, so I change my stage name to Tri Nohbi and began dropping music again in 2022 after a 5 year hiatus. During that time, I met, my now producer, Ruckazoid. Now here we are 3 projects later. Getting ready to release my 4th.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not lol the music industry is not only fickle but ever changing. Dealing with majors, with no previous knowledge of the industry was probably my biggest setback. Not knowing how the system works or if that was even for me. Also, I had so switch my team up because getting people on one accord is like the hardest thing to do. All while trying to stay afloat during and post pandemic. Not for the faint of heart.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, I’m a recording artist. I have more than a few projects out and pretty amazing fanbase. I’m proud of the level of quality music we are able to provide in a time where that isn’t always the selling point in the music industry. And believe I have one of the most unique sounds in Hip-Hop/Rap/R&B.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Be yourself/Know yourself and always stick to it. Like seriously, understanding who you are allows you to know what type business you want to partake in, what type of art you want to make, what type of people/environments you want to be around. Be yourself!
