Meet Soraya Ardakani of Rose & Sage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Soraya Ardakani.

Soraya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Fashion has always been a big part of my life, even in my childhood. I grew up in Los Angeles, the youngest of three girls. With two older sisters, I was exposed to fashion and make-up early on. I have always enjoyed putting together outfits and even recall styling one of my sisters and her friends before they would go out on the town. I loved every part of pulling pieces together with accessories for her and her friends.

Fast forward to 2013 and Rose & Sage was born. It seems like it was just yesterday that I opened the store while I was a sophomore in college studying Political Science. This year, June 2018, Rose & Sage will celebrate its 5th year!

The vision for the store came to fruition when a small clothing boutique in Toluca Lake that had been there for over 13 years closed down. Everyone in the community was saddened by the store shuttering, including myself. I quickly realized that this was my opportunity. After space became available, I shifted gears, switched my major in school, and Rose & Sage was born. The store has had great support by the community, friends and family and Rose & Sage would be celebrating its 5th birthday without them. I am so appreciative.

I am very involved in the day-to-day business of Rose & Sage but my favorite part of owning the store is being able to hand-select the pieces for clients. I carefully curate a selection of items each season that appeal to all ages and are attainable to everyone. It’s most important to me to carry affordable apparel while also incorporating high-end designers.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have definitely had my share of challenges along the way. Being a young female business owner is not easy because people don’t always take you seriously. I remember not disclosing my age for the first couple of years after opening Rose & Sage for the fear of being stereotyped as being an irresponsible millennial who wouldn’t contribute to the community. As Rose & Sage began to flourish in the community I began to gain the respect of fellow business owners, but it wasn’t always easy.

In addition to this, fashion is a risky business. Trends are constantly evolving and there are so many changes in the industry. Although it’s my favorite part of the business, selecting merchandise for Rose & Sage is also the most time-consuming. With that said, I am constantly researching market trends – online, via social media and in real time. I try to carry styles that I know my customers will like and will fit into their existing wardrobes easily. My job is never boring and I love being responsible for keeping Toluca Lake stylish!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rose & Sage – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Where Classy Meets Fabulous – that’s my tagline for Rose & Sage. It’s a fun place for women of all ages to shop for all occasions. I pride myself in providing affordable and high-end options for women in the community. My goal has always been to create a store with a warm, friendly, fashionable and glamorous environment. I carry styles that are on trend for those looking for a fashionable outfit for Saturday night as well as classic and timeless pieces for clients looking to expand their wardrobe with something they can use for several years. I am most proud of our customer service at Rose & Sage. More than just a clothing boutique, the staff is there to help with styling advice. We love helping someone put an outfit together with items at Rose & Stage from head to toe.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Rose & Sage has launched a new avenue in the online world. www.roseandsage.com. We have a great team working on revamping the site and I’m very excited to launch with new products, styling tips and information on in-store events!
