Today we’d like to introduce you to Alice Chien.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Dancecapade was founded in 2000 out of a genuine love for dance and a desire to share that passion with the next generation. What began as a small venture focused on teaching children in a safe, age-appropriate, and nurturing environment has grown into a thriving dance community.
Over the past 25 years, Dancecapade has remained committed to creating a positive space where young dancers can learn, grow, and express themselves with diversity in all genres and strong technical foundation. With the support of dedicated instructors, wonderful families, and a strong local community, the studio has become a place where confidence, creativity, and lifelong friendships flourish.
This milestone is more than just a celebration of time—it’s a reflection of the values that have shaped Dancecapade from the very beginning: passion, professionalism, and heart. As we look to the future, we’re excited to continue inspiring the next generation through the art of dance.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Reaching the 25-year milestone hasn’t come without its challenges. From the economic downturn in 2008 to the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic—where classes continued virtually for an entire year—Dancecapade has stood strong, adapting through each hurdle with determination and heart. Now, with ongoing economic uncertainty, we continue to evolve, committed to delivering quality dance education no matter the climate.
Dance is a fluid and ever-changing industry. To stay relevant and sustainable, we’ve learned that constant growth is essential—not just artistically, but operationally. Staying current with dance trends, prioritizing dancer wellness, and refining our training methods are all part of how we continue to serve our students and avoid burnout or injury. Progress is not optional—it’s part of who we are.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Dancecapade, I have the privilege of working with an incredibly talented and passionate team, all dedicated to sharing the joy of dance. We specialize in both recreational and competitive dance training, and we’re known for providing a well-rounded, supportive environment where dancers of all levels can thrive.
What sets us apart is our focus on the whole child. We understand that today’s kids face unique pressures and are exposed to a lot at a young age, so we strive to create a space where they feel safe to grow—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Whether they’re dancing for fun or pursuing a competitive path, we guide them with intention, care, and high-quality instruction.
What I’m most proud of is helping children discover the joy of dance in a way that builds confidence, discipline, and a lasting love for the art. If they go on to pursue dance professionally, we make sure they’re ready. But even if they dance simply for the love of it, we know we’ve helped create something meaningful and lasting in their lives.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned throughout this journey is the value of always being open to learning and truly listening to what my audience needs. As a small business owner, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities, often feeling like there’s no time to step back and just observe. But taking that moment to reflect and understand what our students and community are looking for has been key to our growth and success.
