Conversations with Beneranda (Bene) Zapata

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beneranda (Bene) Zapata.

Hi Beneranda (Bene), we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from Azusa Pacific University in 2020, two weeks before the world shut down due to the pandemic. During this time I struggled to find a job at the hospital. I was a new grad with no experience and new grad programs were saturated with applicants making it more difficult to find a path into the hospital. After a few months I was able to land a job at a hospital. I quickly realized this position was not a good fit for me since the training was very short, it was either sink or swim. I wanted to be in an environment in which I could thrive and provide the best care for my patients.
The beauty world of nursing was always an interest of mine. I never imagined however, that this would turn into a full time role for me. I have been in aesthetic nursing for four years. I enjoy going to work everyday, it is fun and I truly love what I do. I have learned so much along the way and I am excited to continue to learn and grow in my career as an aesthetic nurse.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the struggles I faced were finding a job immediately after graduating nursing school. I graduated during the pandemic which made it very difficult. Many hospitals were only hiring internally and new grad programs were completely saturated making it very competitive to be hired by those hospitals. I was unable to find a reputable hospital that would hire me as a new grad without first being part of their new grad program. That is how I ended up staying in aesthetic nursing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I provide different treatments such as laser hair removal, micro needling with PRP/exosomes, IPL, Morpheus8, PicoSure Pro Skin Rejuvenation/Tattoo Removal and Co2 Fractional Laser. Most of these treatments focus on skin rejuvenation to address concerns of hyperpigmentation, scars, fine lines/wrinkles and overall texture. I am most proud of my ability to help my patients feel their best. I am able to build rapport with them and help them feel comfortable in their treatment journey. My patients feel comfortable approaching me with any questions/concerns they may have regarding treatments/outcomes.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The best advice I can give someone who is just starting out is, “just go for it”. Often we overthink our decisions which delay us from reaching our goals. I wish I would have taken this advice from myself sooner, it would have saved me a lot of stress and overthinking. We should not allow the fear of failing from preventing us to move forward in our attempts at reaching our goals.
