Check Out MaKayla Mardan Bigi’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to MaKayla Mardan Bigi

Hi MaKayla, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Over the years I have been lucky enough to delve into filmmaking and photography. At the root of it all, just wanting to share stories. I credit this all to my childhood.

Let me set the scene: It’s the early 2000s in small town Arkansas. I have a blunt cut bob and straight across bangs. Most of my time is spent outside or reading. I became enamored with cameras, with a drawer full of disposables and a taped up Kodak on hand. I spent a lot of time taking photos in nature and exploring different angles.

This was the foundation I built for myself without even knowing I’d be standing soundly upon it someday.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
From the outside looking in at anyone’s situation, it can seem like a smooth road. I was a part of my high schools broadcast television and film programs. I immediately went to college and got my Bachelors in Digital Film/Media Production. Shortly after I received my Masters in Screenwriting. Following that, I moved to LA and have been working out here for the past two years. Along the way I’ve gotten to work on many projects that I’m proud of, but I would be remiss to say there weren’t struggles. Everyone deals with unspoken things in their lives. Family struggles, deep-rooted personal endeavors, whatever it may be. Life moves swiftly and hits ruthlessly. It only matters how we deal with what comes our way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
On set I’m a BTS Photographer, but have had the pleasure of wearing many different hats in art department, editing, and writing. However, set life comes and goes, so my day job is working at a Rental House. With the wavering landscape in LA, things can be scary for all the businesses that thrive on a booming film industry. I am most proud of the fact that I, as well as so many others, continue to move forward in a tumultuous environment.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
No question about it, the best thing about LA is the food. There is no lack of flavors, cultures, and new things to try. Another plus is the city is never without art and the people who bring it to life. The city of creatives and dreamers. However, the city can feel so tight with how many of us there are. It sometimes feels like it’s hard to stand out in a crowd of people all fighting for the same thing, but no matter what, we must always build up and support our artists and communities.
