Inspiring Conversations with Lily Lauzon of POM Talent

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Lauzon.

Hi Lily, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in 2018 as an assistant to two yoga influencers based in El Segundo CA! While I was working with them, I thought “hey we should be working with brands” so I started working on brand partnerships for them on social and for their podcast! I worked with them for 2 years which was so fun, we did a few yoga retreats with one being in Bali! From there, I started working for a big podcaster who has one of the top 50 podcasts on Spotify. I ended up quitting in 2020 during covid and was interviewing at a ton of places then I asked a family friend who was the VP at an agency in LA for feedback with my interviews. She had her own talent management agency as a side hustle and asked if I wanted to help out. I said sure why not, I’ll give this a go since I’ve always worked on brand partnerships from the talent side. I ended up bringing in almost $1M in revenue within the first year. While I helped her grow her business, I also started working on the Brand Partnerships team at an A-List celebrities media company. I decided to start my own Talent Management Agency while also working on the Brand Partnerships team at this media company. After a year of doing both, I decided to go out full-time on my own and grow my own business. Thankfully, my company has grown all from word of mouth and friends of friends! Most of my Creators have always brought a friend or two along with them and that’s how we continue to grow.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In this industry there are highs and lows, you have to just stay positive during those low periods because they always go back up! In my experience so far, is probably loosing clients, there’s a lot of talent management agencies out there and they are always poaching Talent. It’s hard to loose a Creator you’ve been working with for years but I’ve actually had 2 Creators leave me and come back a few months later. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Smaller agencies are also so much more intentional, proactive and supportive!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
POM Talent stands for partnerships, opportunities and management. We are a boutique talent management agency where we represent influencers in the fashion, beauty, lifestyle and culinary space. Essentially, we pitch out our Creators to their brands to work on social media campaigns. What makes us unique is that I like to keep my roster pretty small, I only bring on new Creators if I really believe in them! I like to imagine if I was a brand, could I see the value of investing in this Creator. For me, it’s not all about how many Creators can I add to my roster. I like to have personal relationships with each Creator and prioritize their goals!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck and hard work play a huge role! I have given my business to God and tell myself that this is His business not mine. With that belief, I trust and know that he will always provide and make things work for the good for everyone involved. Luck can come into play when I send out an email to a brand or an agency at just the right moment where they were looking for a Creator that is the perfect fit! This happens all the time!
