Exploring Life & Business with Dmitrii Chernikov of PROSPORT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dmitrii Chernikov.

Hi Dmitrii, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in a small city in Russia, and from the age of five, I dedicated myself to Taekwondo. Over the years, I earned my black belt and a Master’s degree in the sport. Alongside my athletic journey, I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and later a Master’s in Social Work.

Despite my academic background, I always knew that working for a salary wasn’t for me—I needed my own project. With years of experience, a unique training system, and a deep understanding of how to build strength and health, I set my sights on opening my own gym.

In 2022, thanks to sports, I moved to the U.S. with my family and continued my journey as a coach and trainer in Combat Sambo and MMA. Now, I’m focused on bringing my vision to life—helping others unlock their potential through my proven training methods.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road—it was extremely difficult. When I decided to move, my business partner didn’t support my decision and even tried to take advantage of my company and training techniques. But copies will never be better than the original.

When I arrived in the U.S., I spent almost a year just obtaining work permission and the necessary licenses to start coaching. And the challenges haven’t stopped—I’m now focused on securing financing to open my own training university, where I can help athletes not only train but also find the motivation to push beyond their limits.

We’ve been impressed with PROSPORT, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our focus is on Combat Sambo and all forms of MARTIAL ARTS, but what truly sets us apart is the personalized approach. I don’t believe in generic group training because every person is different. I have the ability to truly understand people—their strengths, weaknesses, and potential—and tailor their training accordingly. That’s why my coaching is highly individualized and, naturally, comes at a premium.

What I’m most proud of is the impact I have on my clients. It’s not just about technique; it’s about transformation—helping each person become stronger, more confident, and more disciplined. My goal is not just to train fighters but to build resilient, motivated individuals who carry that strength beyond the gym.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe risk-taking is essential for growth. Without risk, there’s no real progress. Every major step I’ve taken in my life—whether it was dedicating myself to martial arts, moving to a new country, or starting my own business—came with uncertainty. But I’ve always believed that if you have a vision and the willingness to fight for it, the risk is worth it.

One of the biggest risks I took was leaving my home country, knowing I’d have to start from scratch. I left behind a business, a reputation, and financial stability to build something even greater. It took time, sacrifices, and a lot of patience—especially with all the legal and financial challenges—but I never doubted my decision.

For me, risk isn’t about recklessness; it’s about calculated decisions. If you truly believe in yourself and your abilities, then taking risks isn’t scary—it’s just part of the journey.
