Meet Alex Wilkie of Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Wilkie.

Hi Alex, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Dionysian was founded in Torino, Italy, during the Summer of 2018.

To date, the group’s repertoire is made up of 25 original songs in English ranging from Hard Rock to Metal, passing through Blues and Folk influences, as well as a selection of covers by Artists like Elton John, Alice In Chains and John Mayer.

The Band has opened shows for Italian and International acts such as Litfiba, Gianluca Grignani, Sarah Jane Morris, Dolcenera, Caparezza, Stef Burns (Alice Cooper/Vasco Rossi), Pino Scotto, Stratovarius, Tommy Emmanuel, Chris Slade (Ex AC/DC), Greg Koch and Paul Gilbert.
In the Summer of 2022 the Band won the “Fantastico Festival” in Genoa, taking home in addition to the First Prize the “Best Original Song” Award and the Critics’ Choice Award, awarded by Italian Music journalist and critic Renato Tortarolo.

On September 10th 2022 Dionysian performed at the Ariston Theatre in Sanremo, winning the 35th edition of San Remo Rock out of over 1500 participants.
The group also won the Hard Rock Cafe, Dophix (both sponsor prizes),
AssoMusica, Nuovo Imaie prizes.

In January 2024 the Band performed at the Hard Rock Cafe in Munich (Germany) and at the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles.

Dionysian Played a series of US shows in September 2024, and opened up for Richie Kotzen (Mr Big, Poison) at the Whisky A Go Go.

In January 2025 the group performed at the NAMM show in Anaheim,
California, as well as the Viper Room in Hollywood.
The Band is supported by Gibson Guitars, and two of
their songs have been featured on the Gibson Global
Spotify Playlist (July, September 2024 and January 2025).

Dionysian’s debut Album is due for release in the second half of 2025.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Probably the biggest struggle was to get our Music heard during the first couple of years in Italy, as over there audiences tend to prefer Music sung in Italian.

Also, most of the Live Rock scene back home prioritises tribute/cover acts, so for a while we didn’t really know where to fit in, but that ended up becoming fuel for our creativity.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We’re a 4 piece Hard Rock Band.

What we’re most proud of is that we managed to keep the Band together during many highs and lows.
We started out when we were 16/17 years old, and got through Covid, personal struggles and many miles.
Whoever has been in a Band for multiple years knows it’s a tough ship to sail.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We’re secretly planning to become a Western Swing Band!!!
