Meet Charity Faye (Brown) of Root Love

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charity Faye (Brown).

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Root Love was born in my kitchen over a decade ago—long before it had a name. I started making body butters and herbal remedies out of a deep desire to care for myself and my loved ones in a more intentional, natural way. I was tired of harsh chemicals, tired of disconnection, and deeply craving a return to something sacred. What began as simple self-care quickly evolved into a calling. I found myself leaning into the healing power of plants, listening to my body, and learning from the whispers of my ancestors. These remedies weren’t just about skincare—they were about remembering.

My love for ancestral practices has always guided this work. Root Love is my offering to the world—a space to reconnect with the wisdom that lives in our bones, in the earth, and in the stories of those who came before us. It’s about wellness that feels like home. Through herbalism, journaling, workshops, and sacred community spaces, I’ve created Root Love to be more than a brand—it’s a living, breathing reminder that we are worthy of wholeness, rest, and healing on our own terms.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like many journeys rooted in purpose and healing, mine has had its share of growing pains. One of the biggest challenges was trusting that what I had to offer was enough—that my knowledge, my voice, and my way of doing things had value, even if it didn’t look like anyone else’s. There were times when resources were limited, when self-doubt crept in, and when I questioned if I could truly turn this passion into something sustainable.

Balancing personal healing while holding space for others has also been a lesson in boundaries, rest, and grace. But each challenge taught me to move with intention, to lean on my community, and to stay rooted in the “why” behind Root Love. The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been honest—and that’s what makes the journey beautiful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Root Love is a wellness brand and apothecary grounded in ancestral wisdom, holistic healing, and community care. We create herbal-infused products like body butters, body oils, and mists that nourish the skin and spirit, alongside offerings like journals and wellness workshops that support reflection, rest, and self-discovery. Root Love is more than just a product line—it’s a movement toward wholeness. Our work is rooted in the belief that healing is not just personal, it’s collective, and that our everyday rituals—what we put on our skin, how we care for our bodies, how we reconnect with the earth—can be powerful acts of self-love and liberation.

What sets us apart is the intention behind everything we do. Every product is handmade with organic, ethically sourced ingredients, and every offering is created with cultural care and spiritual depth. We center Black women and families in our mission, offering spaces—through our podcast, workshops, and community events—where people feel seen, safe, and supported.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is creating spaces where people feel seen, safe, and cared for—whether that’s through a handmade herbal remedy, a quiet moment with a journal, or a shared story in community. I find joy in simple, intentional living: time in nature, meaningful conversations, ancestral practices, and witnessing people come back to themselves.

It makes me happy because it feels like purpose. It’s healing not just for others, but for me, too. When I’m rooted in love, community, and alignment with the earth, I feel most whole—and being able to share that with others brings a kind of happiness that’s deep, steady, and sacred.

Travel also makes me really happy. To tap into mama earth, see the world, honoring different space, places and cultures. It reminds me that we are one.
