Today we’d like to introduce you to Davonte “Deuce” Harris
Hi Davonte “Deuce”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I remember my grandmother telling me to grab the pots and pans from the cabinets in her home on Almont Street, and bang on them as loud as I could; because it was on those pots and pans, and in that house on Almont Street in East Detroit, where music became my destiny. After growing my career in the “Motor City”, influenced by greats from all genres and eras I could listen to, I took a chance and moved to Los Angeles to begin my career professionally. Here in L.A. I’ve gotten the opportunity to grace the biggest stages; from Coachella to the AMAs, and play alongside some of the biggest artists (Snoop Dog, Snoh Aalegra, Ciara, and more). As far as production and composition, I’ve been fortunate to work with many artists and musicians, both established industry professionals and new independent artists (Rance Dopson and 1500 Sound Academy, MaKenzie, and more) but I’m really only getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been beautiful, but not always smooth. I had to leave my family at 20 years old and start over. From sleeping in an Astrovan, being homeless, and working to maintain friendships and move up in my career at the speed I desired. But ultimately every hurdle has helped mold me into the unstoppable machine I am now, so I’m grateful for every second.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the CEO of a Record Label, a father, and many other things but when we’re talking creativity I specialize in percussion, bass, and production. I’m most proud of the growth I’m seeing and have seen throughout this journey, especially considering I’m not even 27 yet. I think that drive and experience sets me apart from others alongside many other things. Ultimately, I do not give up no matter the circumstances.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My late grandparents are the first people to come to mind when it comes to giving credit to others for helping me get to where I am. Obviously my loved ones and friends have helped along the way but the impact my grandparents had on me musically is just so special. I would be remiss to not mention them.
