Meet Kayla Munoz of Ethereal Club LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Munoz

Hi Kayla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Back in high school, I got my lashes done for the first time and realized that my lash tech had the freedom to make money on her own terms while still living life on her own schedule. That immediately sparked my interest in building my own business.

After graduating, I had the opportunity to leave my retail job and pursue lashing full-time. I practiced relentlessly, taking in friends and family as models to perfect my craft. Over time, my work started gaining recognition, and I was finally able to call this my full-time career.

Through lashing, I’ve been able to accomplish major milestones—from purchasing my own car to moving into my own place—all while doing something I love. I’m incredibly grateful for that. As my business grew, I expanded my services to include brows and tooth gems, giving my clients even more ways to enhance their beauty.

Looking ahead, my goal is to transition Ethereal Club into an online business, where I can offer a media and marketing course to help others grow their brands. I want to create a stream of income that allows me to make money beyond the chair while continuing to build my brand.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There definitely were some challenges along the way. You won’t be perfect right away. I think that was my biggest lesson. I understood that hard work was needed in order to improve and grow. I remember my first six months being HELL. I wanted to quit so bad. I remember taking 4 HOURS just to do one set. I felt so discouraged. This job requires a lot of patience and attention to detail. I would always consider looking for another job because there was a lot of self doubt in the beginning. Shoutout to my mom for always encouraging me to keep going. If it wasn’t for her, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. I also had a lot of personal problems that sometimes got in the way of my business but nonetheless, we prevail!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Ethereal Club LA was formerly known as @lashmariposa in 2020. I originally started with lash extensions but wanted to expand my offerings. In 2021, I took a brow course, followed by a tooth gem course in 2023. When I decided to incorporate other services, I knew I had to change my business name. I chose Ethereal Club LA because the word “ethereal” resonates with my brand and target audience. It means “extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world,” and that’s exactly how I want my clients to feel after a service—beautiful and otherworldly.

I take great pride in my work and social media presence. I’ve dedicated a lot of time to ensuring my content is fun and eye-catching, curating a platform that truly represents what Ethereal Club is all about. I believe my attention to detail sets my business apart. I love the ability to design a custom lash or tooth gem set that reflects each client’s unique style. In fact, I’m known for creating sets that are 100% tailored to my clients’ eye shapes and aesthetic.

For me, offering beauty services is a form of art. Every client I work with is like a new canvas, and I take pride in bringing their vision to life. Beyond that, I’m very personable with my clients—I genuinely see them as my homegirls. Building meaningful relationships has not only made my work more fulfilling but has also helped me stand out in the beauty industry.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up as an only child, which meant I had a lot of time to myself. I was always a creative kid, constantly making clothes, recording and editing YouTube videos, and having photoshoots. Fashion was a huge passion of mine—so much so that at just seven years old, I started saving money to attend fashion school (though that didn’t end up happening).

Beyond creativity, I also had an entrepreneurial mindset from a young age. The summer before 7th grade, my best friend Kaylee and I decided we wanted to launch an online retail store. We designed business cards, built a website, and even created product designs. Of course, nothing really took off—we were just kids and had no clue what we were doing—but the drive and creativity were definitely there. Looking back, even my mom can confirm that I was always meant to be an entrepreneur.

Personality-wise, I was goofy, always laughing, and a little bit weird (in the best way). Middle school was interesting because kids could be pretty mean—they made fun of the way I dressed and the ways I expressed myself. Because of that, I found myself suppressing parts of my personality when I got to high school, and I wish I hadn’t. If I could go back, I’d remind myself not to dim my light for ANYONE!
