Life & Work with Alex Moreo, Jr of Boyle Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Moreo, Jr

Hi Alex, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi! I’m Alex Moreo, Jr., a tech lover through and through. I grew up in the Inland Empire, but moved to East LA after graduating from Cal Poly Pomona in 2018 and landing my first job at a tech start-up company in LA.

My passion for technology started early—it’s honestly in my DNA. My dad worked in electronics and handled tech repairs and maintenance for the Pomona Unified School District. So, my brother and I were basically raised around computers and cables. I still remember my first real tech obsession: a Creative Zen MP3 player I got in 2006. From there, I was hooked. Around that same time, my parents gifted me my first computer, and I spent countless hours exploring, learning, and figuring out how everything worked.

Over the years, my brother and I naturally became the go-to “tech support” for our family and friends. Even today, I get pulled aside at parties to troubleshoot someone’s phone—and honestly, I don’t mind it one bit. That love for solving problems and making tech easy to understand is exactly what led me to create content online. Now, in addition to working in project management at a tech company, I create fun and easy-to-follow videos about iPhone tips, iOS updates, and product unboxings. It’s been amazing to turn something I’ve always loved into something that helps others every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Back in 2020, like so many others, I was trying to navigate life during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was grateful to still have a job during such uncertain times, but despite continuing to work hard, I went three years without a raise or any kind of compensation increase. It left me feeling stuck—like I was pouring so much into my career but not seeing any growth in return. I started job hunting, hoping to find something more fulfilling or better aligned with my goals, but after several interviews and no offers, it was disheartening.

That’s when I started looking into side hustles—not just to bring in extra income, but to find something that sparked a new sense of purpose. What started as research quickly turned into action, and in November 2023, I posted my first piece of tech content. I haven’t looked back since.

Creating content has truly been a blessing in disguise. Not only has it allowed me to express my love for tech in a fun and creative way, but it’s also become a real source of income—something that’s brought both financial relief and personal fulfillment. On top of that, it’s opened doors I never imagined, like being invited to exclusive industry events and joining creator programs across different social media platforms. It reminded me that sometimes, life’s setbacks are really just redirections. I genuinely believe everything happens for a reason, and this journey has been proof of that.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
By day, I work in the smart home installation industry as a project manager. I oversee large-scale installations—think smart locks, thermostats, access control systems—for multi-unit apartment buildings and residential complexes. It’s a mix of coordination, problem-solving, and making sure every detail runs smoothly from start to finish. I’ve also had the opportunity to build out internal processes that help the team work more efficiently, which has been incredibly rewarding.

But what I’m most known for is my work as a tech content creator. I share easy, practical iPhone tips across TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram—making the everyday user feel more confident and in control of their device. I started this journey to help others, and it’s grown into something bigger than I imagined. I’m genuinely proud of the community that’s formed around my content and the consistent effort I’ve put into it. It’s a lot of work—filming, editing, scripting—it really is like having a second full-time job. But every time someone comments to say, “I had no idea my iPhone could do that” or “This helped me so much,” it makes every minute worth it.

What truly sets me apart is the way I explain things. I’m intentional about breaking things down in a calm, clear, and easy-to-understand way—especially for people who may not be super tech-savvy. I want my content to feel approachable and helpful, not overwhelming. That’s always been my mission: make tech simple and useful for everyone.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you’re just beginning your content creation journey, my biggest piece of advice is this: don’t obsess over numbers in the beginning. It’s so easy to get caught up in views, likes, and follower counts—but that can take the joy out of creating. Instead, focus on making videos around topics you’re genuinely passionate about. When you care about the subject, it shows on camera, and that kind of energy is what really connects with people.

Also—don’t let the fear of what others might think hold you back. Honestly, when I started my content journey in November 2023, I didn’t tell a single person. Not friends, not family. I wanted to grow organically and see if my content could resonate with total strangers first. That gave me the freedom to experiment and find my voice without feeling self-conscious.

One thing I wish I knew at the start? How much time it truly takes. As a viewer, it’s easy to underestimate how much work goes into a single video. But once you’re on the creator side, you quickly realize how much time, thought, and energy it demands. Filming, editing, scripting, researching—it’s a full-on commitment. So if you’re serious about content creation, know that consistency is key, and you’ll need to put in the hours. But if you stick with it and stay authentic, the results—and the growth—will follow.
