Today we’d like to introduce you to JONATHAN AVILES
Hi JONATHAN, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I Actually graduated from Musicians Institute In Hollywood where I took a Music Video/Film/Tv production program. As much as I loved it I found myself shooting a lot of behind the scenes photos on sets and ended up leaning more towards still photography so I ended up going back to school and found a fantastic program at Fullerton College that really elevated what skills I thought I had.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road and I had a lot of breaks in-between my video and photography work where I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with life and well i’m still here thinking about that very same thing but at least I know taking photos whether for a client or myself is now and forevermore something I will be doing for the rest of my life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I like to think of myself as the double sided coin that the Batman villain Two Face uses in the comic books. The coin is heads on both sides but one side is scratched and beat and my photos are sometimes very bright colorful and happy while other times dark bizarre and mysterious. Two very different sides of the same coin. I love being able to jump between the different styles and I’m hopeful that’ll help me stand a part from other photographers even if just a little bit more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I am very fortunate that I have some really cool people in my life and lucky that they are always ready to help anyway they can and a lot of times those same people are the ones who recommend me so I get a lot of new clients from word of mouth. As a matter of fact my good friend Ely who I was lucky enough to share a class with was a featured by you guys a while back is the reason i’m even being interviewed right now and through her I have had a lot of new clients and even made some great new friends.
