Today we’re excited to be connecting with Angeliqua Mcnair again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Angeliqua , thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
Excited to be connecting again! Since our last conversation, so much has evolved. When we last spoke, I had launched Fancy Spatacular, my luxury kids’ spa, which I’m excited to share will be reopening soon. During expansion, the pandemic forced a pause, and I took that time to relocate to Miami, reflect, and pivot my career after years in the legal field.
Now, I’m the founder of We Are AM Agency, a full-service creative agency specializing in digital marketing, brand strategy, and public relations. We work with diverse brands in fashion, beauty, hospitality, e-commerce, and beyond—helping them build strong, impactful identities. We also manage talent, including influencers and public figures, and recently secured a contract with an established sports agency to market high school and college athletes. From social media marketing and content strategy to experiential events and brand partnerships, we offer a 360-degree approach to brand growth.
What sets We Are AM Agency apart is the depth of my career experience. I have a strong foundation in marketing and advertising from the fashion and beauty industries, a legal background that sharpens our business strategies, and extensive public relations expertise. Every role I’ve ever had as a marketer and communications professional has paved the way for the agency’s success. But beyond strategy and execution, people love working with us because we bring a personal touch. At the end of the day, people do business with those they like—and I’ve been fortunate to build strong, lasting relationships that drive real results.
I’m incredibly grateful for the clients and partners who trust us to bring their visions to life, and I’m excited for everything ahead!
Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
I appreciate the opportunity to share my journey again! Since our last conversation, things have been evolving in the best way. Building We Are AM Agency has been a process—full of trial, error, and lessons—but I’ve always bet on myself, and I’m seeing the results of that more and more each day. Scaling an agency isn’t easy, but we’re growing, and I’m excited for what’s ahead. My goal has always been to bring my people with me in the process, creating opportunities for others while pushing the culture forward.
Right now, I’m most excited about taking We Are AM Agency to the next level. We’re expanding our reach in digital marketing, brand strategy, and talent management—especially with our latest partnership in the sports industry, where we’re marketing high school and college athletes. We’re also signing on new talent worldwide and doing so intentionally. Our marketing and PR clients have always been amazing, and I’m looking forward to continuing to scale their brands while also working with larger brands on a bigger stage.
Another huge milestone I’m excited about is the reopening of Fancy Spatacular, my luxury kids’ spa. It was a passion project dedicated to my niece, and this time, we’re coming back stronger and better than ever. I’ve done extensive research, learned so much from my first launch, and I’m ready to bring it back in a way that’s even more meaningful.
More than anything, I’m focused on becoming the woman I’ve always wanted to be an inspiration to young Black girls, showing them that they can be multi-hyphenated, wear many hats, and thrive doing what they love. We’re also in a phase where we’re stepping out of being a hidden gem. People are recognizing the impact of We Are AM Agency, and we’re ready to take up even more space. My journey is constantly evolving, and while there have been challenges, every step has been worth it. I’m just getting started, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Alright, so let’s do something a bit more fast-paced and lighthearted. We call this our lightning round and we’ll ask you a few quick questions.
- Favorite Movie: Devil Wears Prada
- Favorite Book: One of my favorite books is Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office by Lois P. Frankel. I first read it when I was a paralegal on Wall Street, and it completely shifted my mindset. As I was navigating my career, I kept envisioning the woman I wanted to become and how to scale my life to be that girl—confident, successful, and fully in control of my future. The book helped me recognize the habits that hold women back and reinforced the importance of taking up space, setting boundaries, and owning my success. Looking back now as a founder and businesswoman, I see how much those lessons shaped me, and it’s a book I’d recommend to any woman ready to elevate her career and mindset.
- Favorite TV Show: One of my favorite TV shows is Scandal. I’ve always loved how Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, balances power, strategy, and resilience. It’s a show about owning your narrative, making bold decisions, and navigating high-stakes situations, which is so relatable to my career journey. Olivia’s character is a woman who knows how to lead with confidence, trust her instincts, and make things happen under pressure—and those are qualities I strive to embody in my own life and business. It’s definitely a show that keeps me inspired and on my toes!
- Favorite Band or Artist: I have so many favorite artists, but if I had to pick, Beyoncé, Toni Braxton, Brandy, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Usher, Sade, and H.E.R. are definitely at the top of my list. Beyoncé is a powerhouse—her talent, vision, and ability to build an empire are incredibly inspiring. Toni Braxton’s iconic voice and impact on R&B are unforgettable, and Brandy’s versatility and vocal range always resonate with me. I also love Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson for their groundbreaking influence in pop and R&B—they changed the game and set the standard for performance and artistry. Usher’s smooth vocals and dance moves have always been a big influence, while Sade’s timeless, soulful sound is something I can listen to on repeat. H.E.R. brings a fresh, soulful perspective, and I love how she’s reshaping modern R&B. Old-school R&B has a special place in my heart too, with the soulful stories and emotions in the music that connect with me on a deeper level. Artists like Marvin Gaye and Anita Baker defined the genre, and their influence still carries on today.
- Sweet or Savory: Savory
- Mountains or Beach: Definitely the beach—I’m a Pisces, after all! There’s just something about being near the water that feels so calming and refreshing. I love how it helps me clear my head and get recharged. Whether it’s the sound of the waves or the overall vibe, the beach is where I feel most at peace. It’s my favorite place to unwind and just take it all in.
- Favorite Sport (to watch): Basketball
- Favorite Sport (to play): Tennis
- Did you play sports growing up (if so which ones): Yes, absolutely—I don’t care what anyone says, cheerleading is a sport! I was a cheerleader from elementary school all the way through college. I have so many cheerleading memories, and honestly, I’ve been competitive and a badass all my life! Cheerleading taught me so much about teamwork, discipline, and pushing myself to the limit. It was an incredible experience, and it definitely shaped my work ethic and determination. Plus, it was a blast!
- As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up: As a kid, I always wanted to be a creative director or a fashion editor at a magazine. I loved the business side of fashion—how everything comes together to create an image or brand. Although I can definitely design clothes and I’m a great fashion illustrator, I’ve always been more drawn to the strategy and storytelling behind fashion. Little secret for those who don’t know—art is my first love, and drawing has always been a big part of who I am. I went to the High School of Art & Design, where I focused on Fashion Advertisement and Fashion Illustration, and that experience really shaped my creative vision.
- French Fries or Onion Rings: French Fries DUH LOL!
- Chuck Rhodes or Bobby Axelrod: I’d have to go with Chuck Rhodes. While Bobby Axelrod is a powerhouse in business, Chuck’s strategic mindset, discipline, and ability to navigate power dynamics resonate with me more. He knows how to play the long game, leveraging his intellect and connections to get what he wants. In my career, I’ve had to be just as strategic—whether in marketing, PR, or talent management. I understand that success isn’t just about making big moves; it’s about knowing when to play your cards, being intentional, and always staying ten steps ahead. Plus, Chuck operates with a level of confidence and control that I admire.
- Favorite Cartoon growing up: My favorite cartoons growing up were Arthur, Madeline, and The Big Comfy Couch. I loved the lessons in Arthur, the adventure in Madeline, and the fun energy of The Big Comfy Couch—the clock stretch was iconic! But I was also a Disney girl through and through. Shows like The Proud Family and That’s So Raven, along with all the classic Disney movies, were a big part of my childhood too.
- Favorite Childhood movie: My favorite childhood movie was Cinderella—but not just any version, the 1997 one with Brandy and Whitney Houston. That movie was everything to me. Seeing a Black princess on screen was magical, but what really stuck with me was the storyline—how Cinderella was underestimated by her stepmother and stepsisters, yet she still came out on top. I related to that in a way. I was a pretty popular nerd growing up—smart, creative, and always thinking ahead—but sometimes people don’t see your full potential until you show them. Cinderella didn’t let the doubt or limitations placed on her stop her from becoming who she was meant to be, and that’s a message that has stuck with me throughout my journey.
- Favorite Breakfast Food: Bacon EGG and Cheese – I’m from Brooklyn NY we live for bacon egg and cheese sandwich 😊
Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
When it comes to making difficult choices, I’ve always led with faith, strategy, and the bigger picture in mind. From a young age, I made a lot of sacrifices I wasn’t in the streets, I wasn’t overly focused on dating or distractions. I put God first, prioritized my education, and did everything in my power to become the woman I always envisioned myself to be and I’m still becoming her with trial and error in this life.
For me, tough decisions come down to alignment does this choice bring me closer to my purpose, my goals, and the life I’m building? I trust my instincts, I weigh the risks, and I’m not afraid to pivot when necessary. I’ve had to make tradeoffs, like stepping away from comfort to bet on myself, or delaying personal milestones to focus on my career. But every decision has been intentional. I believe that when you move with purpose, the right opportunities will always align in due time.
