Today we’d like to introduce you to Royce D’Orazio.
Royce, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began working in LA as a producer in the TV and Film Industry. In 2013 I produced a documentary on the history of video games, and was inspired to buy my very own Donkey Kong. As my collection grew I needed a new space to house all my games. Knowing how much my friends and family enjoyed my home arcade, I saw an unique ability to advertise my rental business. By opening up my arcade to all families to play in for free, our initial marketing strategy quickly grew to become a weekly destination for friends and families to relive their childhood. Now we charge just $3 per person to play all day in our arcade. We also rent the venue out for special events, parties, and film shoots.
Has it been a smooth road?
My business was truly birthed by accident. There are a lot of challenges in growing a successful business but the hardest part is staying true to your mission statement and not worrying about the competition. It is important to focus on what you wish to achieve with your company and not losing sight of that goal along the way. With the help of my daughter and some very talented friends, we have defined ourselves as the largest retro family arcade in Los Angeles.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Not only does the size and scope of our arcade separate us from similar businesses, but our design and atmosphere has come to define us. We pride ourselves on our unique ability to cater to both parents and children and unite all ages through a love of video games. Nothing is more enjoyable than seeing a parent and child bond over a forty year old game that we’ve worked hard to bring back to life.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is truly the entertainment capital of the world. For us, it was the obvious and necessary place to build our business. I would suggest to anyone starting a business to focus on their local territory first, master that, then consider growing outside of your zone. We love the Los Angeles market because it includes such a diverse and eclectic group of people. Being open to that public allows us to meet and interact with so many different folks from a variety of cultures. That is what makes Los Angeles a great place for any business, entertainment or not.
