I began my career between 2013 and 2018 as a team lead manager, ultimately becoming a general manager at some of the busiest stores in LA, including locations in K-Town, Downtown, Westwood, and near USC, notably at Chipotle and Bibi Bop, a Korean fusion restaurant. I thrived on building a team of top performers and crafting personalized experiences for our loyal customers.
During my daily drives to work, I often noticed vehicles adorned with Uber stickers, which piqued my curiosity about the app. After conducting some research and engaging in conversations, I decided to join Uber in my spare time, discovering a newfound joy in driving and exploring my city. My interest deepened when I began to see black SUVs at LAX, prompting me to learn about the Transportation Charter Party (TCP) permit. Despite the daunting process, I was determined to succeed.
By late 2020, I started networking with fellow drivers at the TNC lot, gaining invaluable insights into the business. In 2021, I initiated the paperwork to establish my limousine company. A pivotal moment came when my first client, after a ride, expressed interest in booking me for their return trip and referred me to friends and family. This encouragement inspired me to acquire my first vehicle, a 2021 RST Suburban.
I dedicated myself to marketing my business, building a website, and creating profiles on platforms like Yelp and Google. As demand surged, I enlisted my spouse as my second driver to help manage the influx of clients. Over time, my interactions with clients evolved, and I grew to appreciate the personal connections we forged.
As my business expanded, I recognized the need for a third driver, which led to my cousin joining us. Investing in an Escalade allowed us to cater to high-profile clients, including artists and production teams for major projects like the Donda 2 album, Heroes & Villains, and We Don’t Trust You, as well as significant events like Coachella and Rolling Loud. We have since added more vehicles and affiliates, ensuring we maintain a high standard of service.
I take pride in matching drivers to clients based on their personalities and preferences, creating tailored and enjoyable experiences. This personalized approach is crucial for retaining our clients and fostering lasting relationships.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth journey, but rather a significant learning experience. Along the way, I’ve encountered various bumps and hiccups. For instance, there have been times when I took a reservation and delivered our service, only to later discover that the payment was a fraudulent chargeback.
There were also instances when we accidentally overbooked ourselves, leading to tight schedules and the risk of being late, sometimes due to oversleeping after performing late rides followed by early wake-ups.
While striving to please clients is a positive goal, as a new company, we often felt the pressure of a microscope on our operations, scrutinizing how well we deliver quality service and manage liability. These challenges have taught me resilience and the importance of maintaining high standards, even in difficult situations.
