Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulina Andrea Acebal
Hi Paulina Andrea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved to LA in 2015 to start my career in Special Effects makeup. After many years of doing it full time, making many incredible friends and connections, I decided to pull back and focus on my second love- teaching science! I’m still working in the industry (on atleast two sets a month) but now have the freedom to choose projects that resonate with me on a deeper level.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Deciding to make the switch back to education was hard, but I’ve been lucky to have the support of my family and friends. My mother has been my rock through all of my struggles and has helped me stay on track to completing my goals.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In my makeup career, I tend to specialize in character makeup- that is, anything from old age or wounds, to high fantasy fairies or sci-fi aliens. I pride myself in bringing an extra level of professionalism and care to every set I’m on, and I try to make production that much easier for the other crew members. In the classroom, I try to do the same. I think what sets me apart from others is my want to create connections with everyone I work with and help each other reach out full potential.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m really into oceanography! Growing up in Miami, the beach was a huge part of my personal and professional lives. The subject was taught all throughout my education and kids where expected to care for the ocean. I am now an avid scuba diver, underwater photographer, and support many local ocean conservation efforts.
