Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin, Max & Hope Mulberry Row
Hi Robin, Max & Hope, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Robin moved to the Valley in 1997 after running a flower shop in Newport Beach. She began arranging flowers from her home before deciding to open a storefront, and that’s how Mulberry Row was born.
When choosing a name, she wanted something deeply rooted in American history. Inspired by Thomas Jefferson’s Mulberry Row—a gathering place on his plantation shaded by mulberry trees—she knew it was the perfect fit. It reflected the essence of what she wanted to create: a welcoming space where people could come together.
Over the years, connections blossomed.
Max came into the picture in 2008 as a longtime supporter and client of Mulberry Row. During COVID, when Robin was running the shop alone, Max started visiting on Fridays, drawn in by the beauty of flowers. With a deep passion for art and local artisans, she began helping in the store, and their collaboration naturally evolved into something bigger.
Robin met Hope when their children attended elementary school together. At the time, Hope was a costumer for film and television, working with celebrities and styling for commercials. Later, she dreamed of opening her own vintage clothing store and approached Robin to do a weekend pop-up. That weekend pop-up became Hanging with Hope Vintage, a hidden gem within the boutique.
Together, Robin, Max, and Hope have built Mulberry Row into more than a boutique—it’s a collective, a community space that empowers women and celebrates the connection between art, flowers, and beauty.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many small businesses, Mulberry Row has faced its share of challenges. COVID-19 had the biggest impact, shifting purchasing habits and making it difficult to bring people back in person—a challenge we continue to navigate.
Beyond the pandemic, months of street construction on Ventura Blvd created restrictions that affected foot traffic. More recently, the Hollywood strikes slowed down business as many in our community were directly impacted.
As a small business, we are constantly adapting to the changing environment. Finding the right balance between pricing, renewing our products, and staying connected with our customers has been a learning curve—but one we embrace with creativity and resilience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Robin:
I’m a full-service florist with a passion for crafting elegant floral designs. I believe no project is too big or too small—every arrangement is an opportunity to create beauty using the freshest seasonal blooms, including unique finds from around the world. I’m most proud of celebrating 20 years in business and of bringing together a community of creative women to share in life’s special moments.
Max:
I’ve dedicated over 30 years to painting and community service, having pioneered early education initiatives and led faith-based outreach programs. Through my art, I strive to connect with people, empower my community, and enrich lives. My work is driven by a deep commitment to mentorship and advocacy, making art a powerful vehicle for lasting impact.
Together, we form the creative heart of Mulberry Row—a space where art, florals, and vintage fashion converge to celebrate beauty, innovation, and community.
Hope:
With over 30 years in the entertainment industry as a costumer—styling celebrities for red carpet events—I now curate Hanging With Hope Vintage. My background in costuming allows me to tailor each look to my client’s personality, creating distinctive, unexpected pieces that resonate with individual style. What sets me apart is my ability to blend character and comfort in every ensemble.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We love working with creatives and the community! Recently, we had a wonderful collaboration with Women Painters West, bringing incredible new artists and artwork into the boutique.
We also welcome event planners looking for a unique venue, as well as personal stylists and shoppers searching for one-of-a-kind pieces for their clients.
If you’re an artist, florist, or creative entrepreneur, we’d love to explore ways to feature your work or host an event together. And of course, the best way to support us is by visiting the boutique, sharing our events, and shopping small!
