I’ve always been drawn to creativity and entrepreneurship, and BuMama is truly a reflection of my journey. After my daughters graduated from high school in Dallas, Texas, I knew it was time to return to California—a place that had always felt like home. I moved to Malibu, inspired by its breathtaking sunsets and natural beauty, and it was here that the vision for BuMama was born.
With a background in music and production, and even owning a music school, I’ve spent years cultivating creative spaces. But I’ve also been a serial entrepreneur, building businesses that align with my passions. When I arrived in Malibu, I wanted to create something deeply personal—something that combined beauty, wellness, and sustainability.
For years, I struggled with chemical fragrances, which meant I could never fully enjoy candles or perfumes. But in Malibu, surrounded by the elements, I became inspired to develop a lifestyle brand that was not only beautiful but also non-triggering and sustainable. I immersed myself in the art of fragrance and wellness, collaborating with talented artisans like Cin Kats, who helped craft my custom luxury candle line, and French-trained perfumer Molly Ray, who guided the creation of my eau de parfum.
BuMama is more than just a brand—it’s a movement. Rooted in the bohemian spirit and the effortless SoCal lifestyle, BuMama is about embracing wellness, sustainability, and a vibrant way of living. It’s a reflection of my journey, my love for design, and my desire to create products that nourish the body and soul. Through BuMama, I hope to inspire others to live authentically and joyfully, all while giving back and supporting mental health wellness.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Launching an eCommerce and wholesale brand has been a completely new challenge. The technical side of setting up an eCommerce site is one thing, but the biggest struggle has been breaking into the local retail scene as a newcomer. Getting stores to answer my calls and take a chance on a new brand has been an uphill battle, but I’ve learned that persistence and building genuine relationships are key.

When I first came to Malibu, I was captivated by its magic—the way the ocean, sky, and mountains come together to create something truly extraordinary. This place awakened a sense of inspiration and deep connection within me. However, I’ve always struggled with chemical fragrances and synthetic smells; perfumes and candles were things I could never enjoy because they would inevitably leave me with migraines. I wanted to change that—not just for myself, but for others who craved something clean, natural, and safe. That’s when I decided to immerse myself in the art of perfumery and candle making, determined to create something special. BuMama was born from that desire—a way to capture the essence of this magical place in a form that could be enjoyed freely and without compromise.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up in Little Rock, Arkansas, I always felt drawn to bigger cities—I knew from a young age that I wanted to be in California or even New York. My dad’s side of the family is in California, so we spent a lot of time there, especially in Carmel and San Francisco for family reunions and vacations. Those experiences cemented my love for the West Coast and the creative energy that comes with it.
I was one of those kids who wanted to do everything. I was a dreamer—and I still am today. My passion for music and film shaped my career early on, leading me to work in television, production, and artist management. But as BuMama has grown, it has become my full-time focus, and I couldn’t love it more.
BuMama allows me to channel my creativity into something deeply personal—blending wellness, sustainability, and artistry. A special part of this journey has been collaborating with my daughters. My youngest, Jett Jenkins, and I recently launched her signature eau de parfum, “Springsteen,” to accompany her latest single. My oldest daughter, Tatum, will also debut her own fragrance, “Saturn 19,” this spring. These projects have been incredibly meaningful, merging my love for fragrance and storytelling.
At its core, BuMama is more than a brand—it’s a lifestyle and a reflection of everything I care about. Seeing it grow into a full-time endeavor has been the most rewarding experience, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
