Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayko Aldzhikyan.
Hayko was born in August of 1976 in Armenia. He was raised and schooled in Armenia until 1992, when his family immigrated to the United States. The Aldzhikyan family settled in the Los Angeles area and Gayk transferred school and began attending North Hollywood High School. After high school, he attended Valley College and then Santa Monica College.
His business career began at age seventeen as an entrepreneur by opening a carpet cleaning business. Within five years, the company grew to a fifteen truck operation with more than thirty employees. In 2001, he gifted the company to a family member and decided to start a new career in the Disaster Restoration business—and Coast to Coast Restoration was created in 2002. The Coast to Coast business operated as an independent restoration and reconstruction business under the direction of Hayko. Within five years, the business had grown its annual revenue to in excess of $5,000,000.
However, he could see the direction the insurance carriers were going in terms of how they were distributing their work. In 2010, Hayko decided to purchase a license to operate a ServiceMaster franchise and converted his Coast to Coast business to a ServiceMaster business.
The conversion to ServiceMaster allowed him to create better, stronger and deeper bonds with several of the largest insurance carriers – State Farm, Farmers, Fireman’s Fund, AIG Private Client and ACE. Since converting his business to ServiceMaster, the business revenue more than doubled to over $10,000,000 per year.
Today, his business employs more than one-hundred employees. Many of the employees have been with the company for more than ten years. He has built a strong foundational business that has allowed his employees to thrive, grow and raise families. In spite of the significant growth, he has maintained the feel of a family business – with employees fully committed to doing the right thing and maintaining a sterling reputation in the community for quality services.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The continuous struggle of an emergency services business is maintaining the appropriate number of employees to handle the changing work volume. Our business is strictly emergency services and there is no guarantee that another job will come in. Thankfully, over time, we have built strong relationships with business owners, property owners, insurance companies and property management companies that refer us their emergency losses.
Technology has changed the industry and keeping up with those continuous changes can be challenging. At one time, field personnel brought in paper-work to illustrate what was done on a particular job – for billing purposes. Today, all of our field technicians carry IPADS and are able to transmit in real time what is being done at job sites.
Please tell us about Servicemaster by C2C.
ServiceMaster by C2C is an emergency services company. We are considered one of the premier entities in this field by insurance companies who prefer that their policy holders receive outstanding work quality, dependable services, and unsurpassed communication throughout the repair process. We provide mitigation services for water losses, fire losses and mold losses. We also provide pack-out and pack-in services when client property needs to be moved off-site to assist in the remediation process. We are also able to provide reconstruction services if necessary. We are considered a “one-stop shop” so that clients can return to their pre-loss condition as soon as possible.
What sets us apart are our employees. Many have been with us since the day we opened our doors – nearly fifteen years ago. The average length of service for our employees is 7+ years. We take pride in our employees and the service they provide each day to our clients.
As President of ServiceMaster by C2C, I am proud of the company we have built together. It makes me very happy and satisfied to see our employees grow with our company and see the growth each employee has made individually. I am thankful for the commitment each employee has made to solidify our reputation in the industry.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As a first generation immigrant from my home country of Armenia, I have many fond memories of my childhood. Life in Armenia, as a child, was much simpler. I was raised in a village — my memories of my childhood are many and are very happy ones. I have maintained many of my childhood friendships to this day and travel back to visit as often as I can.
