Conversations with Jason Lally

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Lally

Hi Jason, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Jason Lally and I grew up in foster care.
I beat the odds and along with my book writer Patrick Burns (Also has lived experience in foster care) we created a new musical Lady In The Moon.

I was told by a theater profesional to put the show together and get it on stage, in order to see what you have.

Short 4 performance run in Los Angeles at Whitefire Theatre, sold out immediately and was very well received, (Good job handshake offered by William Shatner was very cool…)

What’s next? We are looking for a new home for this story about finding a home within yourself.

Lady in the Moon tells the poignant story of a young man who grew up in foster care, and his journey to healing and human connection. This love story takes place in a city not unlike Los Angeles in the early 2,000. Josh and Allison, two people from vastly different backgrounds, meet by chance and discover they have a special bond. But the complications swirling around them challenge their ability to be together. Their emotional love story taps into universal themes of anxiety, loss, faith, trust, and how ultimately, individuals have the power to overcome barriers and build the lives they envision for themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hardly, I had basically “retired” as a songwriter and musician and had barely even picked up my guitar for eight years. Then the lockdown happened…

For me this time without the normal responsibilities of work / life balance was a blessing, and I had a story to tell.

That being said, once I realized that I was writing a musical, it was an amazing unlocking of my inner artist. I had not even known how BAD I needed that back in my life.

Here comes the struggle, I am a father and a husband and have a very high overhead for what our family needs and once I went back to work, trying to find time, energy and space to create became very difficult and caused me to feel the same way I did when I “retired”… like what’s the point? It’s really hard even at my age to have people tell me how important my art is, knowing that it’s extremely difficult to make enough money with art to “buy” you time to be an artist. Yikes!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the composer / lyricist of Lady In The Moon — A New Contemporary Rock Musical.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I have always been a risk taker which is why I have more than a few failed businesses to my name. My good ideas rarely pay the bills BUT if you don’t take risks, life will pass you by and will leave you wondering “what if”.

I will never have to deal with that because I’m always willing to try! Although my family’s needs come first, I will never stop dreaming of a life where I am my own boss and it will all have been worth it.

Dream big!
