Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Glover
Hi Ryan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from Chicago, Illinois and I attended Illinois College and in my senior year started pursuing a career as a rapper. Trying to get more exposure for my music led me to start doing background work and act in student films at schools like Columbia College and The School of the Arts Institute. For more stability I joined the Coast Guard in 2006 and by 2008 was stationed in San Pedro at MSST LA/LB.
Being in LA gave me the opportunity to open for groups such as Digital Underground at the Viper Room, Dead Prez, Camp Lo and Slick Rick. I also used my military paycheck to record my first album which received mixed reviews. By 2009 I was honorably discharged and went back to Illinois College and finished my degree.
After graduating from Illinois College I started attending the New York Film Academy 1-Year Acting Program and took my first formal acting classes but was arrested for a robbery charge in Los Angeles and ended up moving back to Illinois before completing the program and booked a job on the pilot episode of “Find Our Missing”. I ended up meeting my wife around this time and we moved to Atlanta and Biloxi where I continued pursuing acting but it wasn’t until I came back to Los Angeles in 2012 to handle my ongoing legal case.
I started attending Lee Strasberg in West Hollywood and booked some short film roles and eventually took a plea bargain in my robbery case before the birth of my first daughter in 2014. During this time I booked a number of jobs working on an Omaze commercial with George Lopez and Nikki Glaser’s show on Comedy Central. I also briefly interned on The John Kerwin Show. Due to the birth of my second daughter and living in South Central I started to explore better living environments for my family and we moved to Salt Lake City, Utah which had a number of film opportunities. I also started blogging and interviewing different celebrities such as Philthy Rich and Bert Kreischer on my YouTube channel.
I moved with my family to Palm Coast, Florida and eventually landed in Cambridge, Massachusetts where I studied acting at Harvard Extension with members of the Harvard Repertory Theatre. I also worked on a public service announcement for the Massachusetts State Police and went viral writing blogs for a small blog. I moved to York, Pennsylvania and continued building my YouTube channel where I would travel to New York and work on scenes with actors such as Daniel Passaro.
I released a music video for my song “All Chillows Eve” in July of 2023 which received a mixed reception. I also worked as a SAG/AFTRA Strike Captain during the SAG Strike and self published a book called “Surviving the SAG-AFTRA Strike” about my experiences in the entertainment industry. Last year I released a music video in July of 2024 for my song “Different Day” With Benzino which received critical acclaim and I also released multiple songs and collaborated with other talented artists such as Skyzoo. In addition to my YouTube channel racking up more than 15,000 watch hours, I also worked on a number of viral videos on various platforms.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it hasn’t been smooth at all because I’ve gone to jail, been homeless at times, faced financial instability but it’s made me closer to Jesus Christ. Maybe I should have picked a more stable career in retrospect but also it’s no better feeling than expressing your creative vision. I think being in the industry for more than two decades I’ve learned it isn’t a meritocracy but any artist who sticks with it can find a way to win.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am most proud of that fact that I have trained as an actor and I’m more versatile than people expect. I’m capable of doing Shakespeare, Chekov and I can rap on a high level because I have a song with Skyzoo where I hold my own and he’s considered by many to be one of the 50 greatest rappers of all time.
